Oil Companies Profits Obscene

By
Real Estate Agent with Long Realty Company
I posted a blog some time ago about what happened to the Congressional investigations into Big Oil's crazy profits and the price at the pump. Nothing ever happened. The blog got 10 responses basically saying so what let it get to $5.00 a gal!!!! Do not let the government get involved. Well here we are genius bloggers,,growing to $5.00 a gal by the month and the results are OUR ECONOMY IS GOING INTO THE TOILET!! Let the market dictate the price will not work people. There needs to be controls. I agree a company, any company needs to make a profit. But a sultry profit that destroys everyone but themselves needs attention. So we have another Congressional hearing a few weeks ago. What Happened???? Big Oil simply says, the price at the pump is not our fault. We can not help it if we are making obscene profits. We are the ones that need help, not the public that has to decide to buy groceries, or fill up the tank!! Come on people. Congress says I'm sorry we bothered you today. There is enough oil in Alaska to last 200 years or more. There is enough oil in Colorado, Wyoming, and Utah to last 200 years. Why are we buying oil for $115 a barrel??? Of course,, let the market dictate what we do, Congress is only there for amusement purposes via the national media. They are wayyy tooo busy to act on something that will save this country from going down the toilet. After all Al Gore says we have global warming and that is more important than the livelihood of the American people that put them in office. Wake up America. You believe the national media, it will take you further down than you are now. That's their agenda. It is the Liberal Agenda. The problem is when they destroy the economy for their political purposes, they have not clue how to rebuild it other than taxing you and I. Time to make choices America. Wake UP!!

The only solace we have on this is that they too answer to God.  Can you imagine what it will be like on the Day of Judgement for the congressional leaders in this country that have not only allowed but implemented plans to destroy the country God gave to us...massive profiteering during the war, taking God out of everything from schools and government buildings to stating how we, as Christians are allowed to practice our faith.  The list is abominable.   We have plenty of oil right now, above ground, to out wait the Saudi's for a long long time.  Plenty of time, in fact, to come up with fuel alternatives...if we REALLY WANTED THAT...But, clearly congress does not.  Pay attention to who the congressmen and women are that are involved in this...pay attention to who doesn't care enough to get involved and VOTE...VOTE VOTE VOTE...You have to vote to your interests...I know it's a lesser of evils but that is what our choice is.  By the way, is anybody watching BUSH...His family is a big oil family that is personally friends with Bin Laden's family...another oil family...Wonder why we are buying Saudi oil yet???  Have you seen anyone successfully stop Bush yet???  The tortures, the war time profiteering, the oil crisis...etc...His hands are in all of those pies...financially.  Of course he has no interest in stopping it..of course his lackeys don't want it stopped either.   This is not an oil company issue...It is a national and global issue...It is a matter of integrity (or lack thereof) on the part of our governmental representatives who are in the places to make a difference.  We have to open our eyes to see peripherally, past all of the non sense the folks running for election would have us look at.  They make a little noise over here and we, like children, move our focus from the real issues this country faces to see the diversion...and we're completely distracted by it.   The questions asked of the democrats at the debate this week by ABC are a prime example of that.  "Why doesn't he wear a lapel pin?"   Who cares?  Give them some meaty questions...We need to know at what point these guys hit the wall...all of them!   Peripheral Vision...That's What We Need...Then we had better pray until our knees are raw.

I loved the sentiment echoed above. We ALL have to stand before God 1 day. And we will have to pay dearly for what we've done. to each other and yes more importantly our fellow man.

Everyone will have to answer to god. I bet we have all read the email that has gone around about a school that has all the drug gang sex problems and the answer is something like "what do you expect when you kick god out of school?"

I really hate paying so much at the pump as all of us do, but I think Kim has been watching to many Micheal moore movies. No disrespect Kim, but the president has NOTHING to do with the price of oil. It is traded as a commodity. There should be more competition from other companies to get more oil on our own soil. Robert is exactly right, we have more oil than we know what to do with here in America. Shale oil can be made for about $35 a barrel I believe, and of course there is ANWR and drilling off our coasts, but if you want to blame someone, try blaming the Liberals in PAC's and in congress who are more worried about a fish or a moose than national security. They are the same people crying the loudest about "big oil" and the price of gas, yet they yell and scream if we even think about drilling here. hypocrites. Maybe if India and China quit using oil, we can go back to the old days, until then, start drilling here and watch the price fall.

Bringing you home...
wow. It all seems so amazing and overwhelming to me in some ways. I'm grateful to know that I have a God that owns ALL the oil and that He will keep mine from running out. That being said - it cost us 3x the amount from last fall to fill our propane tank today!

You seem very confused Robert. What margin of profit do you make from running your business? How would you feel if the Government came and told you it was too much and you needed to cut your margin in half? You see the problem is the margin remains the same. The actual cost dictated by OPEC means the price goes up. If the price goes us and the margin remains the same, then the profit goes up. Result? Happy shareholders.

Now on the other side of the coin, politicians seem to have no power whatsoever when it comes to drilling. That seems to rest with the environmental whack jobs who have successfully prevented drilling in Anwar and the building of a new refinery in more than 30 years. For me, I would drill through the head of a Caribou to get the oil out of the ground.

Not confused Simon. If you read what I wrote it says I have no problem with any company or business making a profit. However when profits are so gross they intentionally destroy an economy, and people's lives than it is a problem. I thought this is WHY we have a Congress and government. If it was not a problem why did they even have Congressional hearings on the excessive profits??????

If Robert's business was in an oligopolistic market, I'm pretty sure the gov't would speak forth if he made record profits quarter after quarter while clients were struggling.
