Is your home ready for sale and the inspection? We may have celebrated the "end of summer" on Labor Day Weekend, but warm weather should still stay with us for a bit longer (we hope!) And so, before it gets too chilly, here are five great things to do around the house while it's still warm enough (whether you are selling or simply settling in this season)!
Shampoo Your Carpets
Steam or shampoo the carpets while you are still able to open windows and properly allow everything to dry. It's a great way to freshen your rooms for the coming months behind closed windows and doors.
Regrade Around Your Home
Take a look at the grading around your home. Are there areas that need attention? While it's still quite pleasant to toil outdoors, consider working to regrade the ground around your home to be sure the rains and snows of fall and winter drain away from your foundation.
Tend To Your Gutters
Make sure your gutters are properly secured, clear, and ready to direct fall water away from your home. Be sure to continue to keep the gutters clear throughout the season - but this first time, you won't even need to wear a jacket!
Replace or Service Your Windows/Doors
Check your windows and doors for damage and make necessary repairs and/or replacements. The mild days ahead are a great time to repair/replace windows or doors, as having the home open to the outside air throughout the day during your work, will neither make those inside too hot or too cold. An added bonus is that windows and doors that are in great condition, are properly caulked, and insulated will be a great asset when the heating season begins in earnest at the end of the month.
Prepare Your Home For the Heating Season
Before you actually have to use your heating equipment, have everything serviced and cleaned as necessary and don't forget to replace any filters. Getting everything set well ahead of time will ensure that your system is in tip-top shape when it comes time to turn it on.
