With active fires in several states right now the reminder of how important fire mitigation is and the difference it can make is very real. Colorado Springs has been very proactive in creating opportunities for residents to do fire mitigation at home.
During the week of Monday, September 21st, the Colorado Springs Fire Department will be chipping in the Broadmoor Hills neighborhood. This is your opportunity to thin overgrowth and dead limbs and to protect all our homes from potential wildfire.
Please note: the slash must be out at the curb by 8 am the first day of the chipping event. Only woody limbs and branches with less than a 9” diameter are acceptable. No trash, weeds, roots, rocks, bags, or grass clippings are acceptable.
The pile guidelines are as follows:
- Piles must be stacked with the cut ends facing the street;
- Piles must be placed within 5’ of the road;
- Pile size is limited to 5’x5’x5’;
- Piles must not be banded or bailed;
- Slash piles will be hauled off unless a full load of mulch is requested.
