Don’t let the ‘Keep Austin Weird’ slogan fool you. The Austin area has all the upscale amenities you would expect to find in a major metro. It’s just one of the misconceptions that people have about the Texas capital. Here’s a look at five more of the biggest misconceptions many people have before moving to Austin.
Misconception #1 - There are mostly just small bungalow homes. It’s easier than ever to find a luxury home in Austin, TX. There is now a level of sophistication that fits the style of buyers from around the world including modern homes on the east side, Spanish revival Bee Cave homes and everything in between.
Misconception #2 - It’s all country and rock music. Austin is known as the Live Music Capital of the World, and a number of huge rock stars got their start here. But there are musical stylings that fit every taste. From the Austin Symphony Orchestra to the popular Elephant Room jazz club, you’ll find every genre of live music being played.
Misconception #3 - It’s super hot year round. Summers in Central Texas are warm, but in the Hill Country there are four seasons, three of which aren’t super hot.
Misconception #4 - There’s mostly just BBQ and Tex-Mex restaurants. Austin is known for its amazing BBQ and Tex-Mex dishes, but it’s a culinary mecca. The city is a leader in the food truck movement, the home of Top Chefs and there are food options from all over the world including African, Middle Eastern and European cuisine.
Misconception #5 - The population is mostly trendy, young hipsters. Yes, Austin is known for having a younger, tech-oriented population. But the neighborhoods west of downtown are well known for being home to well-established white-collar residents and nature lovers.
