The Camel and The Needle...A Lesson In Life

I am always asking God to speak to me through His Word and yesterday was no exception. My pastor spoke on Mark 10:17-29 about the rich young man asking Jesus how to obtain eternal life.

After the young man assured Jesus that he had kept the Ten Commandments since he was very young, Christ told him to sell everything he had and follow Him. The Scripture says that the young man hung his head and "went away sad because he had great wealth." ( vs.22)

The message touched my heart as the pastor explained that this man cared more about his wealth than about eternal life. It is so easy to get sucked into my career as a Realtor and focus on the monetary goals. Working long hours, spending too much time at my computer, concentrating on the next sale. God wants me to succeed, but not at the expense of my relationship with Him.

John Occhi just finished a Bible Study on the Book of James. I enjoyed it very much. He mentions that he studies the Bible and applies what he learns to his business. I agree with him.

Everyone knows "you can't take it with you" so why do we act like we can? Jesus explains to His disciples in verse 25 that "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

I walked to my car after church deciding to spend more time doing what counts, focusing on what God has planned for my life not what I plan for my life.

Hopefully this parable will speak to one of you as well.

Great stuff sis...... we need to realize that even though God does NOT condemn being wealthy...he DOES NOT like it when wealth becomes a greater priority than HIM....

The love of money...not money in and of itself...is the root of ALL kinds of evil......greed, gossip, slander, self promotion, materialism, self pride (thinking You are making it happen and NOT Him LETTING you or doing it WITH you)....etc etc......

Great post and one that complements another members teachings.... VERY cool how the Lord is working among us here in the family.....

Lisa,

Wonderful post.

We tend to think we are not like this Rich man, but when we put other things before our time with God, no matter how honorable our motives are, we too echo the actions of this man.

Thanks for the reminder!

Lisa,

You are so on the "Money" as I like to say.  This is a great lesson that ties in nicely to the Book of James and the way the first chapter ens in verse 27: Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and keep oneself unspotted from the world.

To follow the Lord Jesus, we do have to be more concerned with others that ourselves or our wealth.

Now Have a Blessed Day,
