Ask An Ambassador- What Things Should Realtors Blog About?
blogging or questions

This is a question that showed up in the Q&A section from a newer Member of ActiveRain. When getting started into blogging it can be overwhelming. Knowing what to blog about is important especially if you are here for business and to be found on the Internet. No matter if you are a Realtor, Lender, Home Stager, Builder, Inspector or in another related field, write about what you know is the best place to start.

First, think like a consumer. What kind of things does a buyer want to know about real estate? What types of questions does a seller have about selling their home? What is involved in a real estate transaction? How does a buyer get a mortgage? The questions can go on and on and these are the types of topics that make great blog posts. The public loves FAQ posts and we can write for days one these.

Everyone likes to know what is going on in the real estate market, too. You can break this down even further into your individual market, neighborhoods, types of homes, features and school zones. The public likes to know about trends in real estate and trends in mortgage rates. Bottom line is the public whats to know just about anything that has to do with real estate, the economy, interest rates, the community or what's happening that is fun to do in an area.

Holidays, fun facts, public interest posts, your individual interests are good blog topics, too. The list can go on and on. Don't forget to share your new listings, open houses and sold properties. Tell about your achievements and when you get a certification and when you learn something new or have an AH-HA moment.

And if you run out of ideas just read a few other blog posts and get inspired and write about something it made you think about. But remember if you are trying to build a business and drive business to your posts, make it well-written with a clear message and make it easy to read.

Value packed blog posts are the lifeline of ActiveRain and get your posts read. They may not always bring comments but if they bring in business, who cares. This is a blogging network and a well written blog post can get you noticed and earn you business, too.

Debbie Reynolds you are right - there are so many things to blog about! And even if nothing else, talking about the market works! People want to learn about what's going on in Real Estate - they all have some kind of interest in what's their home worth!

Hope newbies take a clue from your post and come up with great posts here in 'Rain.

My friend Mike just recommended a book about becoming an idea machine by the same title and it's about writing down 10 ideas every day no matter how bad or good they are just to get your brain exercising that muscle. I think it's a good idea!

Having subjects to blog about isn't the problem.  It's finding the time to write that is an issue for me.

Hi Debbie --- sometimes the mind can go blank when it comes to blogging topics. Review your day -- what you see, what you do, the questions people ask, situations....be open to the possibilities.  And as that Nike slogan reminds us...just do it.

Debbie,

Another topic to write about is our experiences in real estate.  For example - how we overcame a challenge, humorous experiences, etc.

Bloging is where the consumer gets to know you better, your knowledge, your personality, etc.  Yes, there are many topics, but just not as much time sometimes.

Think guy and gal in the audience. What you would want if they were you out in the wild blue yonder needing just what you blog post about daily.

Debbie, My personal experience is there's never a shortage of potential topics once you get used to blogging regularly.  Keeping a focus on writing what will make your phone ring vs. what will attract comments can be a challenge too.

Thanks Debbie! I think many consumers are new to the area and want to know more. Information about schools, etc. can be very helpful.

Looking For Homes With A Smile

Good morning, Debbie!

Ideas for blogs is not my problem, it is that round thing with numbers 1 they 12 on it's face.  I ideas sold for $10 each, my bank account would be needing a weight loss program.

When I see apples on a tree, I think "Apple Pie." A few weeks back, as I walked into a business, I noted Ole Glory was tattered, torn and worn.  I said something to the gentleman.  There is a blog for Veterans day in the works.

While driving through a condo project, my mind went to the conflict between Patriots and their HOS boards over flying the Flag.  I can't help it; but my challenge is that round device with twelve numbers upon it face.  For years, I have made notes of things I see, things I need to read up on, problems I would like to solve, and the blessings God lays along my path.  Currently, I am alert to the things I need to share with my daughter as she begins her real estate career.  I should buy a small tape recorder like I carried for years as an MLO: "NOTE TO SELF..."

A lot of good ideas here.  I do need to start writing down ideas when I get them.  Certainly writing about topics you know is key to a good and interesting blog.
