Shift Happens was yesterday's continuing ed topic. Shift is not a remote or new subject because we live in an ever-shifting environment. Although there was no longer surprising or awe-shocking information gained from the class, there are some new apps and sites provided that could come in handy. They are at the very end of this blog if you want to jump in and check them out.
During the session, we watched some videos revealing humanity's gnawing insatiable expedition to challenge its vision and imagination.
There has been continuous shifts in our midst since time immemorial. Hence, when we hear SHIFT, it sounds like any other incident or event waiting to happen right before our eyes. Whether we like it or not, its effect on our lives could be inevitable.
Our society is constantly evolving and revolutinizing leading to innocuous and sinister changes. There are shifts that we involuntarily embrace:
- Climate shift
- Demographic shift
- Governance shift
- Technological shift
- Labor force shift
These changes affect our way of life and the lives of the future generation. A gender shift has been made possible and this is just a microcosm of the radical transformation within or outside the realm of our own personal and moral conviction. Kids as young as six years old have free rein and access to infinite information through their fingertips.
Alvin Toffler, author of Future Shock, said, "The accelerated rate of technological and social change left people disconnected and suffering from "shattering stress and disorientation."
We can't sail against the wind. We have to learn how to swim with the tide. You have to be engulfed completely by the hermit-way-of-life thinking to jettison the intractable. Therefore, adapting to constant and rapid changes could put pressure on man's physiological, physical and mental adequacy.
Could this be the reason for the proliferation of anti-depressant and anti-anxiety pills? Many people seek absolution in multitude ways. A man can only surmise when he would be at his own tether.
Humans are unstoppable. History chronicles man's amazing feats and failures. However, failures just make our species more superior and sagacious.
Are humans in constant pursuit to ameliorate our way of life? Or are we setting ourselves up for our own deterioration?
I cower when I think of the future generation. On the other hand, I believe that posterity will take care of its own.
