4 Great Loan Officer Traits

When choosing a mortgage lender to get your home loan, you're going to need to know these 4 great Loan Officer Traits.  The reason you need to know these is because all too often now the people you communicate with (especially online banks) are just in call centers, and it's better to have some local, and consistently there to help you with  your mortgage needs.  When you call Darren Copeland's office, you'll always hear the same people working on your loan. When you call to get pre-approved, it will be the same people; everytime! So here's a handy guide to what you need to look for when picking a mortgage lender.

  1. Experience.4 great Loan Officer Traits
    • There is no order to this list about who to get your home loan from, but this should always probably be number one on that list.  You don't want someone who hasn't been in the mortgage business in Kansas City Missouri for just a week; you want someone who knows the possible outcomes of all situations, and that can only come from experience.  You also want to know that when it comes time to refinance or purchase a new home with a new mortgage that person will still be in business!
  2. Communication
    • You're going to need to look for a mortgage lender who will communicate with you, not one who avoids your phone calls or questions.  In our case, we have an office full of staff who can help you answer just about any question you have, so when the boss is away, the work still gets done!  Make sure your loan officer is someone you feel will answer your questions thoroughly and not just give you the salesman's answer to get you in the door!
  3. Expertise
    • Of the 4 great Loan Officer Traits, this one is probably the most important for the mortgage process.  If  you're looking to get a VA loan, then make sure your lender has the expertise to do a VA home loan.  Has your mortgage lender done more than just conventional loans and refinances?  Do they know the peculiarities of the FHA or USDA loan?  They should, if you're going to use them for one of the biggest purchases of your life!
  4. Commitment
    • You want a mortgage lender who is going to be commited to seeing you meet your goals for home ownership, not just one who is commited to lining their pockets with your 401k.  A good lender is going to help you save money and help you make your dreams come true!

Darren,

Lenders, please, make us look good, really good for referring our clients’ to you. Some lenders seem to forget we put our reputation on the line every time we refer a buyer.

What do you do when you get a stupid short contract like 20 days on a rehab. Everyone just barks at you to make it happen.
