Animals of the MLS

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Zion Realty

We went from featuring three canine companions last week to only one in this weeks Animals of the MLS. Who doesn't like a good afternoon nap? This little guy seems to be enjoying exactly that when his slumber was interrupted by an impromptu photo shoot. He was probably dreaming of chasing cars, barking at cats, or playing tug-o-war with his owner when his world came crashing down by being awoken to a stranger coming in to his house. Can't a worn out pooch get any rest around here?

His cute little ears are perked up showing he is definitely intrigued as to what is going on. However, he's not inquisitive enough to move off of his cushy and inviting dog bed. Trust me, I feel the same way when I wake up sometimes! These small breeds of dog can be deceiving when it comes to showing a home with an animal present. They may seem small in stature but at times they can be the most distracting with their incessant barking. No matter the size of the animal it's always best to either remove them or kennel them for showings. You never know what potential buyer will be hesitant to view your property if they know an animal is at the premises.

As for the picture of the bedroom I'm not sure what exactly the agent is attempting to highlight. You can't determine the size of the room at all. The window coverings are mostly down which makes the room seem dark and dreary. There's some nice crown molding here but your eye isn't exactly drawn to it. The room itself seems to be at least clean and orderly but it's hard to tell whether or not it's cluttered or staged properly since you can only get a small glimpse of the entirety of the space.  I would have highly recommended a wide-angle lens to be used for this shot. I also would have opened up all the shades to let in the great natural light, and of course I would have removed Fido and his dog bed.

Good morning Nicole. This little guy seems to be in the same color scheme as the rest of the room. Thanks for sharing the photo.

Good morning Nicole.  Not only can they yelp and bark all the time they are also defensive and attack if they think you are getting into their space.

Hi Nicole.  It is amazing how many poorly taken photos are put in MLS.

Cute dog in a cute bedroom.  Though not my idea of any kind of picture for selling a home.

George - You never know what the owner will throw in with a full price offer!

Andrzej - That's about the only thing your eye is drawn to.

Chip - The dog is cute but not quite a selling feature.

Mike - It appears that way. There's nothing else to look at.

Yolanda - The dog and curtains didn't convey.

Sharon - I'm not sure what could have been a selling point here.

Dick - He looks at bit confused and intrigued but still pretty cute.

Sam - I can't imagine it would have taken much effort to move the dog and the dog bed.

Tammy - Maybe they were trying their hand at pet photography.

L & S - Bidding starts at 1 box of milk bones. Do I hear 2?

Lou - Showings should definitely be scheduled when there is a pet involved.

Evelyn - The little guys are usually more of a vocal threat for sure.

Myrl - Having pets around for showings should be limited.

Kevin - He does match the decor!

Troy - He's front and center. It's hard not to think that.

Joe - Maybe they love their pet so much they considered him a design element!

James - Yes they will which is why some buyers won't even look at a home with a dog.

Conrad - It's getting better but I come across them everyday.

Gabe - It's hard to tell anything about the room really. The picture is so closed off.

Ah yes, another of those "what were they thinking" MLS photos. The you have those showings with instructions not to go into a particular room because of the dog or cat. Not the best exposure for your home.

Pets have a place in our home . . . . and their part of the family . . . . But pets have no place in a MLS Photo's.

Good luck and success.

So much wrong with this photo, I'd say the little pooch is the best part.

Nicole, it doesn't look like he's too happy to be disturbed from his nap. I think the agent is highlighting the dog and not the house. Yikes!

Doggone it, Nicole -- at least Fido is in the same color scheme as the room.   I'm sure you can't even tell where he has shed some of his fur, yeah - right.   Another what were they thinking moment.

Looks like the doggie can get some sleep in this pretty dark and monochromatic room Nicole.  It seems to have nice windows but the Agent really did not do it justice.

Jane - Yes, what were they thinking?

Lou - If at all possible pets should not be in the MLS.

David - Pets in their habitat are always entertaining!

Kathleen - He does blend right it!

Alan - I'd venture to guess he gets plenty of table scraps too!

Roger - I'd say you're right!

Amanda - I wouldn't be happy if someone woke me up like that either.

Michael - That's an excellent point. Although here's hoping they did a thorough cleaning anyways.

Joanna - Pull those curtains down and I bet that room turns in to a cave!

Mark - We should all be so lucky!
