St Peters Cathedral, in Marquette MichiganMarquette Michigan

This morning Nick and I had the opportunity to attend Mass in St Peters Cathedral in Marquette.

This Cathedral is not just a special place to worship God but holds significant historical value to this region of the country.

This is the Cathedral that the snowshoe priest, Father Baraga established as he ministered to the native people in the area walking and canoeing from lower Michigan and then back and forth across the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and along Wisconsins Northern shores.

Bishop Baraga, had great love for these native people and they for him as he ministered to their needs, started schools, developed an alphabet for their native Ojibwa language and introduced them to Jesus.

It was great to meet some of the great people of Marquette this morning and so nice to visit with God in this wonderful old landmark church.

Bob - worshoping in that place must have been a special experience and it is important to show how we were founded on moral and faith principles.

Hi Bob Crane ,  There were a lot of great men and women who shaped this country into what it has become.  Many of them were evangelists and ministers who roamed the country. I guess that would be like Cold Calling!

Thanks for this awesome post, Bob.  I am fascinated with the many aspects of religious history - this is rich in that.

Bob, how wonderful that you were able to attend Mass at St. Peters and learn  about it's history. I visited a Greek Orthodox Church this weekend and enjoyed a presentation about its place in Dallas history.
