Be CAREFUL -- DocuSign HACK!!
Be very careful with opening documents with attachments!
This has been a caution for as long as I can remember when it comes to preventing hackers from wrecking hack havoc:
Don't open attachments from uknowns!!
Period. End of story.
This morning I received a very authentic looking DocuSign email.
It was sent from a very repuable agent and had the agent's email account. I know DOCU-SIGN emails and this looked legit.
The only thing is . . . I'm NOT in a transaction with them!
It happens from time to time that I have inadvertently sent emails out which were in error. You know how easy it is to select someone's email address and when we're in a rush, sometimes the wrong person gets emailed.
Typically, I catch the oopsie after I hit send.
So when I received the DocuSign email from the reputable agent, I thought . . . Hmmmmm . . . maybe they sent this out inadvertently?
Since I DO NOT CARE what is going on with another agent's transaction, I DID NOT OPEN THE FILE!
Curiosuty sure does kill the cat!
I called the agent, left a message and said:
"I got a DocuSign document from you, but we aren't working a transaction together, so perhaps it was sent to me inadvertently? I didn't open it, and just deleted it. Just wanted to let you know that maybe it should have been sent to someone else."
The agent called me back within 10 minutes and said . . .
"DO NOT OPEN IT . . . it's a hack!"
Be very, very careful when opening ATTACHMENTS . . . the DocuSign document looked so very real.
It was NOT!
