If BMW and Mercedes say so, it must be true! For mature audiences only!

over 50 and proud of itNo, this is not about what type of car you drive as a real estate agent. This is about how old you are. I read a features post today, written by Gayle Rich-Boxman called "Is there an age limit in real estate?"  Gayle celebrated the more "mature" of us here and believes we have plenty to offer.

Yay Gayle!

Anyway, I left a comment that said I had read something on ActiveRain a while back that stated not only should real estate agents have a college degree, but that they should be under 50! I didn't respond to the comment, other than clicking off of ActiveRain and hobbling over to my walker...

YIKES!

According to Gayle the average age for a real estate agent is 57. Uh oh... I'm older than that. But not by too much.

Anyway, I decided to find out what the world thinks of those of us who are mature.

Seems a study done in the UK by BMW and Mercedes said that the older workers are just as productive as their younger colleagues!  If you don't believe me, or are concerned that I may have gotten it wrong due to failing eyesight or a feeble mind, check it out here.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I'm not ready to give up the ghost just yet, and nor do I think my age should require me to. Many of us over 50'ers are very competent agents, brokers, inspectors, mortgage professionals. We have seen lots, we have wisdom that comes from many years of different experiences, many are very tech savvy and social media savvy.

And boy are we fun!

SPOILER ALERT

In the link above to the study findings, a Canadian Insurance Group did find that those over 50 are more inclined to gain weight and suffer from "excessive" stress. But I do know many who are younger than me that are inclined to weight gain and suffer from "excessive stress".

And if its really true, (it was on Google, therefore it must be so) 50 is the new 30.... so that makes a 20 something jr high school material again... we more "mature" folk are all set and ready to rock and roll!

And sell real estate....

Andrea, our Founding Fathers in all their wisdom did not set up an occupational or educational requirement to be elected President of the United States.

They established a MINIMUM age  whereby candidates running for president  hopefully had  learned many life lessons in business, politics, or public service.

Bruce, how clever of you, yes indeed! Many of the candidates are older than I am... interesting!

AR must have hiccuped!  It cut off your blog after only af few words.  I did read Gayle's blog today, however.  Youthful exuberance can provide a lot of energy; but it's kind of like an untrained puppy dog if discipline isn't implemented so the pup can live to reach an age of knowledge, experience and wisdom!

Myrl Jeffcoat same thing happened to me, but it seems to be fixed now. LOL, I like your analogy!

I sure hope that 50 is the new 30, that does a lot for my thoughts on aging!  :)

Andrea,

Great blog and I will have to stop by Gayle's blog, I do not want to buy a home from a 20 something year old what does he or she know about owning a home or budgeting for that matter very few 20 years know how to.

Yolanda, while I agree, I should add that everyone has merit, those under 50 and certainly those of us who are on the other side of 50!!!!

Andrea-With age often times comes wisdom and maturity which is often times severely lacking in our youth today. I would rather buy from somebody with both of those traits.

Andrea  I hire experienced, smart and wise professionals. The whole subject doesn't hold a lot of weight in my mind and I'm betting the same goes for many other older and wiser professionals. Who would be silly enough to say all 50 somethings need to get out of  ___________ any business, politics or any other leadership position?

Good morning Andrea. If Gayle Rich-Boxman Fishhawk Lake Realtor (503)755-2905 wrote it, it is true. Thanks for sharing your post, fortunately we can use age to our advantage and are success more often than not.

I long since passed the age where I am concerned about it or any conceived restraints it may put on me.  Physical restraints are definitely there whether I like it or not so may as well go with the flow.  Mark

The picture is pretty funny, the idea would be that with more experience your skill set and ability to work efficiently would improve because you would know exactly how to get something done.

Andrea, that is why I don't like to share my age!!  People pigeon hole you and it has nothing to do with age unless you sit in front of the tv all day or play cards...I remember George Harrison saying when he turned 60...gees, i still think and act like a 20 year old...That's me!

Hello Andrea ... great post my friend and VB gets better with age, like a great bottle of wine.

VB has been buying and selling real estate for over 30 years and doesn't plan on stopping until he passes.

But I don't think I will actually be a Realtor past the age of 70

Purchasing and selling RE for investment ... until I'm 100 years old
