Solar Eclipse Supermoon on Sept 27, 2015 was Unbelievable!

On Sunday September 27, 2015 at 7:11 pm EST we had a double celestial spectacular event with a Lunar Ecipse and a Supermoon over Southern California. This moon is also known as a Blood Moon and it does look like one, doesn't it?

This first picture was taken just around 7:15 pm. After that, it became so dark that I couldn't find it for almost 1 hour but then it showed up again!

Then I took another one at 8:20 pm at the end of the eclipse. The Meteorologist on the television had said if you take a picture at the end, you would be able to see a slight ring on the outer rim when it passes through the ozone layer. I was so excited to see this rim.

 

Unfortunately if you missed this eclipse, there will not be another one like this for 18 years in 2033. The last this event occured was in 1982.

 

Young and old alike turned out at Griffith Park Observatory to watch this pheomomen.

Yes it was amazing and so worth the time to get some good pictures but I had to go outside several times to get clear shots. When it is totally covered during the blackout, I could not see anything.  Had to wait!

I cannot remember how many times I have gotten up in the middle of the night to get photos of eclipses or the tail end of Northern Lights only to be cloudy. I felt I was lucky to see the eclipse and get some pictures to share.

Yeah, I was pretty bummed to find out that I missed it. My friend got some time lapse photography of it, so I had to live vicariously through her. Her photos were quite similar to your first one, and how exciting that you got the "rim".
