Beware of fall fires during Halloween and Holiday celebrations this year in Eastchester, NY 10709
The fall season brings cooler temperatures, beautiful colors and an abundance of outdoor activities.
So, we suggest that home and business owners plan ahead this season, to help ensure a safe and fire free Fall 2015.
Using candles in glass containers in decorating, or in getting ready for Halloween primetime and trick or treaters, is key for safety. We all love fall colors and candlight, but have seen too many fires, due to open flames near curtains or table settings. This candle is safely outside, on conrete with leaves away from a structure...and it's lovely!
Here are some suggestions that may help your family or staff to make merry and celebrate All Hallows Eve, Chanukah and Christmas through New Years celebrations safely:
- Fall decorations, like dried flowers and cornstalks are highly flammable. Keep these and other decorations away from open flames and heat sources, including light bulbs and space heaters. NOTE: These great exterior decorations are framed by unlit pumpkins.
- Keep emergency exits clear of decorations, so nothing blocks escape routes -- like your holiday tree in front of a side or back doorway.
- Teach children to stay away from any open flames. Be sure that they know how to stop, drop and roll, if their clothing catches on fire.
- Remember safety first when choosing Halloween costumes. Consider avoiding billowing fabric...sorry ghost costume fans. If you are making yours or a child's costume, try to choose material that won't easily ignite or melt quickly, if it comes in contact with heat or a flame.
- Be careful about candles in paper bags along walkways or on wood porches near passing costumes, near curtains in windows and in pumpkins, if indoors.
- It is safest to use a flashlight or battery operated candle in your pumpkins or walkway luminaries like this lovely bag.
- Use extreme caution, if you use real candles.
- Place lit pumpkins away from anything that can burn and out of the way of doorsteps, handrails, walkways and in yards where children may play.
Have fun and be safe over the holidays everyone ~ hope these tips contribute to your safe and serene Fall season!
