Adventures of a Notary Signing Agent...

Previously posted elsewhere by "A Quick Note"

OK, so I arrive at a very modest, older (vintage 1950's) house after dark and the house is dimly lit. I remember I'd just gotten a new prescription for my glasses and my eyes were adjusting to them... Anyways, the lady invites me in and into her living room where we apparently will sign on a coffee table-I refer to this type of signing as a "back-breaker".Tattoo Back Again, the room was dimly lit and a light in the corner of the room was just enough to read and see the documents by. We begin signing and I notice that I keep catching something in my peripheral vision as "moving".... Yet, when I turn and look nothing moves.
So we continue like this while she signs...every few moments I turn, because I keep getting that sensation of movement.:scared: When the borrower catches me doing this for a second time :scared:I blurt out "New glasses....they're playing with my sight"....."Oh," she says, "let me turn on some more light". She turns on another, far brighter light across the room :right: and suddenly, it becomes apparent what all the movement was. The dark colored carpeting which was, in reality a light colored carpeting that was very dirty and dingy was strewn with cockroaches larger than a mans big toe   and they were slowly crawling all around the room. If I were a woman I'd have screamed-and as a man, believe me, I was screaming 'on the inside'. Instead of actually screaming, I rushed the rest of the signing for the woman-who seemed oblivious to the motion.:silly: Then, I went home to grab a shower and burn my clothing.

...as a man, you were screaming on the inside...hahaha...now THAT was funny!

I went to a signing where the lady had 5-6 cats running around, and two had asthma...but as a new body in the house, these cats insisted on smelling me, and rubbing up on me...now mind you I LOVE CATS! However, one of the cats kept wheezing right by my leg, so I moved a bit to avoid the kitty cat booger shower he was performing literally on my pantleg, but low and behold this cat hocked up a long, healthy sized grey hairball right at my feet.  The signer, the owner of these cats was just laughing so hard, that I had to join in, reluctantly, for I was still concerned of the magnitude of effort it actually took to hock that thing up!  I am still amazed by it!

Sometimes its a real blessing when the lights are on low.  I am often grateful to the borrower(s) that want to meet at Starbucks or a coffee shop when I see the condition of their car.
