Olema, California - February 19, 2007,
West Marin in February - beautiful weather, nature springing from winter, and cyclists - lots of cyclists!
Today the Tour of California - Stage 2 - peddled through Marin in what could only be called magnificent weather.
My family and I set up watch at Olema, Ca - about a 20-minute drive from my hometown of Lagunitas, CA - at around 11:30am and waited for the racers to pass.
Olema is a cool town that is most famous for being the epicenter of the infamous 1908 San Francisco earthquake. I couldn't help but take in the local color while we waited.
Here's a photo of California's spring bounty: a lady bug investigating my daughter's hand (she wonders if a green ladybug is indeed a male).
Check out the vistas in Olema, CA.
Here's one of our famous Marin cyclists out to support the event - Mr. Scott Phillips of Fairfax. I know the photo doesn't show it - but that's a Lemond he's riding!
Then, at about 12:30, the support vehicles began to pass us at increasing speeds - here's a shot of the ever-colorful Mavic support vehicle.
Then came a one-man break away followed seconds later by the entire pack (or pelleton).
