How often should my Realtor® contact me once they've listed my home?

Real Estate Broker/Owner with Christiansen Group Realty (260)704-0843

One complaint we often hear from folks we work with is that their previous Realtor® didn't communicate well with them.

"They stuck the sign in the yard, took some pictures, and we didn't hear from them for months."

Hearing this enough times early in our careers actually helped us to become better listing agents.

We have a lot to offer our sellers in the Fort Wayne area, including our market knowledge, professional photography, drone video where needed, a 30-60-90 day plan to sell their home, and many other things.

The most powerful thing that we offer on top of everything else is communication.

This year most of what we have listed has gone in the first week or so, so a long term plan didn't come into play with all of those.

There have been a few listings that were tougher sells, and (full disclosure here) there are a few homes that we couldn't sell in the alloted time.

Even with those that we didn't sell, those sellers received great communication from us.  We reached out to them on a weekly basis with a phone call and an email.

There were many times that we had nothing new to report, but we always want our sellers to know that we're here for them, and we're doing our best to get their home sold.

Communication is key in this business.

Wouldn't you agree?

Absolutely, I agree. Communication is essential. Clients have a need to know and a right to know. It is our duty to keep them informed.

I totally agree! Even if there is nothing new to report, don't make your sellers wonder what's going on.

Amen and amen!  Even if there is NOTHING new to report, report weekly.  Check in.  Let them know you care and what you're doing to market their home.

Selling in a week, or so, doesn't mean escrow will take any less.  So communicating during the escrow period is so very important too!  No news is good news, but our clients don't get that!

I tend to do much better with clients who want emails.  I'm great with email updates.  Calling... there is room to improve.

Never too much. I do vary my communications, though. Not too many emails or voicemails or texts...vary them throughout the week if they are just updates.

No one likes to be ignored, but the only person I've known who came right out and said so to the person doing the ignoring was my Grandmother. The rest just put up with it, grumble to friends, and form a low opinion of the person who is ignoring them.

Yes, I've had unhappy sellers tell me that their previous agent did a great job at the listing presentation, but didn't live up when it came to actually handling the listing . . . which includes regular communication!

The regular contact gives an opportunity to reinforce ideas about what. It takes to get a sale in case the Seller has not followed the agent's recommendation too.
