Things that make you say "WHAT"??

It happens oh so often. I go to a home for an inspection and find things that make me say to myself "What the heck were they thinking?" I mean, how do they come up with this stuff, and at what point do they rationalize in their head that makes them think, "This is a great idea"

The other day I ran across these items, I will call them oddities. The deadbolts were at the bottom of the doors! Not just this one, all of the exterior doors except the front entrance door. Three of them total. The agent said he thinks it was done that way for security, so someone couldn't kick down the door as easily. Huh? There were some scratches on the jamb like maybe a huge dog lived there, but really? Was it Cujo? Makes you say Hmmmm.

Moving along, the door between the garage and the laundry room had a peep hole in it. What? If someones already in your garage, you going to look at him through your peep hole before you open the door? Knock Knock... who's there?

Then again outside. The side garage door exterior light was an interior pole lamp fixture. Had a switch on top. Very convenient. So if your local burglar is trying to pry that door open, you know dealing with that low deadbolt and he thinks there is just tooo much light there, he doesn't want to be seen picking that deadbolt on his hands and knees... he just reaches up and turns off that pesky light. Nice!

I don't know about you guys, but this all makes sense to me. Or wait... it may be a little odd. Sometimes it's entertaining!

Strange indeed!

Had the dog in the first photo been larger, of course the dead bolt would be higher.

The second, the peep hole is so the door doesn't hit anyone when opened.

And the convenience of the switch on the light is, well, convenient.
