Simplify Blog Posting in 5 Easy Steps

Step One to Simplify Blog Posting. Organize! Create a plan!STEP ONE - Create a Plan!

Part I

What is the Your Blog Mission?  Why are you blogging? What is the overall goal of your blog? What is your message?

What platform will you use?

Blogger, Wordpress, Website Blog, ActiveRain? If you can afford it, use a paid platform. WHY?

  1. You can assign a custom domain to your blog.
  2. You have more freedom in customizing your blog and the layout.
  3. Paid blogs always offer better SEO. You still should be involved but overall you get better SEO results with a paid platform.
  4. No other ads on your blog. How much would it suck to spend all that time writing a blog only to have another agent advertising on YOUR blog?
  5. It really isn't that expensive to pay for hosting.

Will you use a registered domain name?

The answer to this should be yes for many of the same reasons you should use a paid blog platform. It's easier to remember MilwaukeeCondos.com than it would be to remember www.Wordpress.com/milwaukeecondos wouldn't it? Plus the search engines like real domains better.

Who is your Target? What do they want to know?

If you were a just a plain old reader, reading another Agent's blog, why would you do it? What do you want to get out of it? I have a list of hundreds of things that people want to learn about related specifically to real estate, taking care of their home, buying, selling, interest rates, remodeling...What do your readers find valuable?

How Often Will You Blog?

Some people think that they have so much valuable infomation to share that they should write every day! Heck, some even write more than once a day. WHY? What do they have to say that can keep you hanging on their every word as much as they post? Do they truly have enough quality information to keep you interested?

Once a month? Maybe you have nothing really to say so you should limit your blogging to monthly. Yeah, that's probably the trick. Um, are you still expecting anyone, besides your mom, to  read your blog? Heck NO!

Okay, so there is really a happy medium. Write two or three times a week. Yeah. Really. 2 or 3 is plenty. Even "I" don't have enough to write every day! But when I do, I hope the info is worth reading!

Now I have decided that one blog post just won't cover 5 invaluable tips to Simplify Blog Posting so keep an eye out for Steps 2-4. I'll get you there yet!

Although I'm retired, I love sharing my knowledge and learning from other real estate industry professionals. - Wenatchee, WA

Hi, Kathy Goldman .  I look forward to reading the next 4 steps.  When I was an active agent, I blogged nearly every day.  Just seemed natural at the time, with lots of fodder  for writing.  I retired that blog when I retired 4 years ago... but I am now getting back into a new type of blogging.  I'd like to get back to at least once a week but I know people who focus on one epic blog a month.  I am more of a blog as inspired kind of girl.

I like it, not sure about topics though.  I seem to run out of ideas.  What's your trick for ideas?

Everything and anything is a topic. For myself, since I am a REVA, i consider anything about new tools and services, better ways to implement systems, some silly stuff that may or may not pertain to real estate or not (so people get to know me more personally), and so on.

I will send a link in today's Step II blog with some more topic info!

Happy Blogging!

How can we be of service

I am not much of a writer so i am thinking once a week is a good starter for me.

Let me give you a bit of advice....You want folks to come to your blog. You want the search engines to come to your blog and begin ranking it. Once a week really won't cut it. Think about it. You would have to have some "really" good stuff to write about once a week to keep your readers engaged. It doesn't really happen that way so try to set a goal for a mimum of twice a week!
