Very interesting and timely post as Janis and I sit here in our home on

Wednesday morning at 7:30 with no power in the house. So ask me how it is

that I'm on line and

communicating with you right

now?

Nope it's not tethering to my

almost dead I Phone. Yep it is

indeed my MyFi. Best investment

we've made since our IP 6 and Mac

Air. We can virtually use it just

about anywhere we go.

Even used

it on a Disney cruise to Alaska

with our kids a couple of months

ago. Gotta love the wonders of technologh nowadays.

Have you thought through where your tech could fail you and what your back up plan would be?

# 1 Internet router. Whether you use DSL or cable for your Internet connection this is the magic box that allows you to connect the Internet to your computer. These routers are now cheap enough that it may be a good idea to upgrade and keep your current router as a backup spare.

(see my post Why you need a new wireless internet router)

# 2 Computer repair person. When your computer starts acting up (and they all eventually will) who will you call for same day service? Do you have your files and browser favorites backed up to a disk, USB stick or the cloud so you can use them on another computer?

Better yet, do you have a spare computer that you back up your files and browser favorites to so you can literally switch to the backup computer and not miss any time?

# 3 Printer. Once again the cost has fallen so much that there is no excuse not to have a backup. You can buy name brand laser printers for less than $100.

# 4 Smart phone back up. There are too many brands and models of phones to give you the specifics here but unless you have a really offbeat model there are apps to help you back up all your contacts, text messages, call log, calendar, etc. to your SD card, hard drive and / or the cloud. Don’t tempt fate. Do this.

What other potential tech fail points need to be addressed? What have you done to make sure a tech fail doesn’t “knock you off the air?”

That is very cool.  What a good backup plan to have when power fails.

And to think when I was first licensed in 1981, the MLS came in a book that was published once a week, and delivered to our office door early on Saturday mornings.  Back then, we couldn't have imagined where technology would take us today!

John DL Arendsen Great question! Although the details are confidential, I can tell you that we did sell "Homes By Marriott" to Marriott International in 2008, when we changed our team name to Haven Express!

Tony and Suzanne Marriott Wasn't getting personal Tony. Just a little dig from two ardent and dedicated Marriott patrons, Lifetime Platinum Elite Rewards members and one of the pioneers of one of Marriott's very first timeshare properties, Desert Springs Mariott.

We've been dedicated Marriott owners, and guests for almost 50 years and have traveled the globe using our earned points. Also my very creative wife has been very successful navigating the Marriott Vacation Club properties which have allowed us luxury accomodations World wide. Needless to say we love "M"!!

John DL Arendsen Wasn't taking it personally - all in good fun!  We're often asked "Any relation" and my usual response is "We let them use our name!"
