Well, yes, I am. Sort of.
Lately, we've been getting our share of rain, and i've noticed a lot of agents planning their appointments according to the weekend weather report - a hurricane might be heading right toward us.
I've stopped doing that. No matter what The Weather Channel says might happen, I make my plans. This is because so often, the predictions are way off, and even when they are not, there is rarely weather that is severe enough to keep me away from an appointment.
Like over this past weekend, the hurricane took a right turn, and by Sunday the sun was shining!
Last winter, I did go out in a storm that included freezing rain to an Open House at a condo that I really wanted sold. And the only reason I did it was that I had told the seller that I would. And guess what? A couple dropped by (the only ones for the entire afternoon) and they bought the place!
Another time, Mother Nature had dumped two feet of snow on the ground here in DC, and I got a call from a cute couple I'd been working with. There was a house that had just come on and they wanted to see it. They had a monster SUV with a littles snow plow attachment. They picked me up, drove me to the house and to the amazed owners' surprise, wrote an offer on the same day.
There are some boundaries I will set. If it's slippery and icy out, I won't drive clients to see a house, but I will go with them if they will drive and have an appropriate vehicle. In heavy rains and high winds, I'm not likely to go out just because there are so many trees in this area, and they have a way of falling and blocking roads. I might not get home to feed Willie the Labradoodle!
Any time we make an appointment with possibly dodgey weather on the way, it's easy enough to cancel. But especially when it comes to hurricanes and blizzards, it doesn't make sense to say no. Instead, I'll tell them yes, assuming the worst case weather forecast doesn't happen. If it does, we can reschedule!
