Contests and Challenges - How Do I Enter?  Why Should I Enter?

Most months here on ActiveRain there is some sort of contest or challenge.  Bloggers can participate, earn bonus points, and more important, probably learn a lot in the process.

So the first question is how do you participate?

  • To find out about what the current challenges are, go to the top of the page, click on "Resources", and then click "Contests" on the drop down menu.  There will be featured posts at the top of the page with the details of each current challenge.
  • Read each post that interests you!  There will be instructions, sometimes a little hard to follow, that will tell you exactly what to do if you decide to take part in the challenge.
  • There is going to be a requirement that you write a post.  It's got to be an actual post, not a comment on the contest entry announcement.
  • You will need to put a link to your  post, usually in the comments section of the post announcing the challenge you are accepting, unless the challenge directions say to do it another way. Part of the challenge is reading and following the instructions.
  • If you don't follow the rules, your post that you worked so hard on could fall through the challenge cracks or be disqualified.

Why should you participate?

  • You can meet lots of other bloggers you might never have encountered before.
  • You can learn a lot, not just by crafting your own entry, but also by reading other bloggers' entries.
  • It's a great way to earn points.  Most of the challenges give you points just for participating.  If the challenge is competitive, you could win a bunch of extra points if the judges select yours as one of the top entires.
  • Entering a challenge can be one of the more fun ways of participating on ActiveRain.

So if you are one of the bloggers who wrote a wonderful, insightful and long comment on the October Challenge, Advice for Newbies, you can take your comment and turn it into an honest to gosh post, and get a bunch of extra points in the process!

Dick, I've participated in most of them.  I mean, how do you think I got so many points?

And Hannah, yes indeed, I should have mentioned SEO!

I have not participated like I should. I do learn, just following the contestants. With that being said I did win the notebook a few years back. So enjoy and enter as often as possible.

Patricia contest/challenges are certainly everything you stated.  I try to enter most of them, but every once and a while one comes along that has to many rules and demands which take all the fun of participating in the contest/challenge.  When I run into one of those I pass up on it.

By the way I will me submitting an entry into your contest/challenge this month

I was wondering what contests were.  Now I know.  Points sound good, knowledge sounds better, and SEO sounds even more better.  Lol, is "more better" even a word?  I think not, but I'm using it anyway.

Here and there, I've participated in a contest. To date, the one I remain most proud of was 30 posts in 30 days. That was a big challenge for me, I am not an everyday poster, and I made sure they were worthwhile, videos etc.

These contests are really valuable. They get you used to posting. If we can learn anything from posting it is that Google loves Blogs. The more you do it , the better you get at it.

Good Sunday morning Patricia Kennedy -

What a great reminder for bloggers of all stages.  I'll admit it's been years since we participated in any contest. Maybe we'll make time to change our ways.

Patricia, I was posting in the Rain for years before I stumbled upon an ActiveRain Contest. They are a great way to get to know other members of the community and let’s not forget the all unimportant points (LOL)!

Patricia Kennedy I remember the monthly crowdsource contest that has helped me to add little extras to my 'bland' market reports!

Points have been incentive for many when they enter the contest or challenges. The idea behind many of the contest is to learn from each other. The best example I see right now - a contest for newbies!

I have seen excellent advice to newbies and looking at each of them, I wished there was ActiveRain when I started my real estate career.
