Right sizing and Margaret Rome's Radio Show!
Setting the ball up and hitting it out of the park in Real Estate is what Margaret Rome does with her "Everything About Real Estate" radio show, Sunday mornings at noon EST on WCBM talkradio 680 in Baltimore, Maryland.
This week Margaret had a guest from the American Society of Interior Designers annual awards event, share how important Design work is in thinking about a real estate move to the "right size" for ever changing life styles.
Of particular importance to me was the place to start when "Transition Living™" or "Right Sizing" becomes a reality in someones life. The time when the thought of making a move with 20 to 40 years of precious memories can become, overwhelming, to the point no one wants to think about it.
The President of the ASID Maryland shared how to make the move "Seamless with joy and fun" by starting with your most valued possessions that make you happy! Build upon those items in the new living environment and create an exciting new adventure.
To me that means "lean and mean" taking only the things that you want to be surrounded by. I once read an Ann Landers post that suggested taking photos of your prized possessions, and making a book of them so when you feel like being nostalgic, you can look at them. In the mean time, let your family and friends select the items that might mean something to them... and let go of the rest.
The show talked about finding a designer that is willing to give an hour of their time to look at what you have along with plans or square footage of where you think you might want to go. It is easy then to create a plan in phases, identifying the cost so you have all the information to go forward in a calm manner.
