I find this all very facinating. But of course I'm no techie and don't even understand most of the language i.e.  "indexing", "organic reach", "video integration", "hashtagging for categorization", "natively publish on Facebook"

That's all GREEK to me. But then that's why I've insulated myself with 5 very bright and well educated kids and 14 Grandkids who try very hard to keep Poppy up to speed in the Cyber World.

Albeit I belong and contribute to Linkedin, FB, YouTube and obviously AR as far as posting blogs is concerned I really only post to AR and share them on LI, FB and my own website

Because of the things I've heard about how Google's SEO can actually work against you when and if you duplicate I've always been a little gun shy about reposting on other platforms.

But from what I think I learned from this post I definitely think it's worth a reblog. There are so many well informed, diversified and expereinced contributors on AR I've come to call it my own personal nest and comfort zone.

You're blogging - but are you doing it where you should be when it comes to social? You need to start blogging on Facebook.  Because the social media giant is launching a subtle war on Medium and LinkedIn Pulse.  And if they make it sexy enough, they just might win.

It all goes back to the roots of Facebook – a little tool called Facebook notes.  It’s a tab that all but disappeared in recent years.  So why would they resurrect it now?

Simply put, Facebook is looking to create an entire ecosystem and keep you in it.  Don’t believe me?

  •       Look at how Facebook has gone after YouTube with video integration.
  •       Let’s not forget their purchase of Instagram.
  •       Then, of course, we’re seeing them slowly start rolling out Facebook Live which takes aim at Meerkat and Periscope.
  •       Facebook’s hashtagging for categorization steals the concept right from Twitter.

We seem to forget the long gone days when Facebook’s status update rivaled Twitter’s concept of “short and sweet” (which Twitter itself is considering changing).  Early on, Facebook had strict character limits on status updates.  They changed it to 60,000 characters in November of 2011.

Now I think it’s important – from a business perspective – to weigh out some of the pros and cons of blogging on here.  But instead of going into a massive analysis, I want you to carefully look at just one point on each side:

SEO- From a search engine optimization perspective, do not replace your website blog or your blog on LinkedIn or Medium with Facebook…yet.  If Google follows it’s past trends, it won’t be indexing these notes any time soon.

Organic Reach- Any time we can natively publish on Facebook, we increase our organic reach.  Just look at videos.  By uploading directly to Facebook, as opposed to embedding something like a YouTube link, we increase our organic reach.  The same is inevitable for your blogs.

Have you started publishing on Notes?  I want to hear your thoughts on the new (old) platform…
