May Your Worries Float Away...

With as beautiful as the days have become in the Florida Fall, its only right that we honor the night, as well. Whether it be for prayer, for thanksgiving, or just simply to gather, many will unite this Saturday, October 17th at the Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens (4000 Morikami Park Road Delray Beach, FL 33446) to let their lanterns float off into the water for a beautiful ceremony.

In fact, so many will gather that the event is sold-out! The website for this event is advertising for interested attendees to visit the Morikami Museam & Japanese Gardens Facebook Page to try your hand at their Ticket-Swap. This will allow people with tickets that can't attend, to find people who are interested in going, to ensure that as many people, as possible, will be able to enjoy this spectacular event.

There will be Japanese folk-dancing and drumming so that you can fully immerse yourself in the culture. There will be an Ennichi street fair in which you can shop a variety of Japanese items from authentic Morikami vendors, play traditional Japanese festival games, and eat Japanese fall flavors including, but not limited to, sweet potatoes, roasted nuts, and fried tofu. Not all vendors accept credit cards, so be sure to be prepared (there will, however, be ATMs on-site)!

And, of course, you will also be able to take part in the beautiful lantern floating ceremony in the spirit of Obon. This is Japan's summer homage to ancestors who return for a brief visit to the living. For some added history, on this evening, "families gather with the community to light the way back to the otherworld for the departing ancestors with floating lanterns called toro nagashi, or with large fires lit on the slopes of nearby mountains since the otherworld is traditionally regarded as lying beyond the sea or mountains".

If you haven't had the privilege of visiting a ceremony such as this, I highly encourage you to reach out and try to find a ticket! You won't want to miss it!
