Cape Cod Marathon in Falmouth MA.
This weekend is the running of the Cape Cod Marathon in Falmouth MA. This is a full marathon that circles the seacoast town of Falmouth, Massachusetts. With more waterfront that any other town in the country, Falmouth provides a scenic marathon opportunity.
Cranberry boggs are also scenic this time of year, and Falmouth has many that the marathon route crosses or runs along side. While not as popular as the Falmouth Road Race,which happens in August every year, the Cape Cod Marathon makes Falmouth a busy place this weekend. There are two races - a half marathon on Saturday and the main, full marathon on Sunday.
The Saturday race is a 1/2 marathon and starts at 7:30 on Main Street in Falmouth. It is an "out and back" run where participants run along the south coast of Falmouth with ocean views over Vineyard Sound out to Martha's Vineyard. The turn around is in Menauhant, the southern end of the Central Avenue peninsula in the east part of Falmouth.
The Sunday full Marathon encircles all of Falmouth. Starting at 8:30 on Scranton Ave, runners will be on different Falmouth roads until 2:30. The chart below will help in planning travel around Falmouth as the runners take over each part of Falmouth at various times.
The Cape Cod Marathon has been run in Falmouth since the early 1980s. The records have been in place since 1986 (2:17:35 men) and 1987 (2:37:06 women). There are money prizes for winners.
