South Asian cultural is associated with henna, curries & colorful clothes. Like Christmas, Diwali is celebrated by many Indians around the world as festival of lights. It marks a victory over evil and for many Hindus it is also beginning of New Year.

Living and working in DC Metro area, I feel blessed that I can be part of so many beautiful diversified cultures and many people can be part of my Indian culture.

If you wish to be part of the celebration or enjoy Indian food here are my top 5 recommendation for 2015 Indian restaurants in and around DC/Va area.

Bollywood Bistro: Now they have 2 locations, Great Falls & Fairfax Virginia. This is by far the best Indian restaurant in the area in the Northern Virginia area for past decade. The key take away every time I have eaten at this restaurant is quality and test of the food. The staff at Great Falls (which is closure to me) is super friendly.

Rupa Vira The Signature: Newest kid in town located in Ashburn Virginia. It's a vegetarian restaurant with ethnic western Indian food flare from Gujarat. I have catered from their catering service for years and always enjoyed their food. I was super excited when she (Ms Rupa) announced they are opening a restaurant. Buffet over the weekend has a huge selection of food from various parts of India.

Indigo: This cozy and fast food restaurant comes close to home cooked meal. Indigo is tucked away on a residential street in NE, with a chalkboard menu & patio place for an outdoor seating. Casual with a mouth watering menu and food that will satisfy your taste buds.

IndAroma: Indian restaurants don't have the same flare as New York, LA, Chicago or other metro and major cities in the USA. However many are surprised when they eat at IndAroma. It is not a fast food like Indigo, has ample of tables, but you have to place an order on the counter. Once you place the order you will receive a map of a state. Waiters bring the food to your table. It is a casual, modern interior, lots of lighting, the major decoration being a colorful map of India drawn on the wall. Food and ambiance both will leave you to come back soon.

Rasika: Rasika has been on the top rated on Yelp. Being an Indian, I personally felt that the restaurant falls short at both quality and options to eat. Their signture drink menu definitely still stand out. It is still very popular for many who want a fine dining option where others don't offer. Food is okay but it is the experience that makes Rasika a fine dining option in the DC area.

Couple other options:

Woodlands- Woodlands got new management couple years ago and have revamp their food quality. The restaurant feels bit outdated but the quality and taste of Vegetarian food is YUMMY!!

Amma- They have 2 locations Herndon & Vienna. I have only been to Vienna close to my home. I am huge huge fan of this restaurant. Food is spicy, served in disposable however the restaurant needs updating. Its an ultra casual food.
