Halloween’s Origin

How did Halloween begin?

The holiday traces back to the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain. The ancient Celts from Britain and Ireland observed the start of the new year on November 1, All Souls Day. The day marked the end of summer and the harvest. Folks came to believe that on October 31, the worlds of the living and dead overlapped before the start of the new year. October 31 became All Hallows Eve, a time where the ghosts of the dead could return to destroy the harvest that was stored for winter. People set bonfires on hilltops to ward off the evil spirits before the start of the winter season.

 How Americans celebrate Halloweens?

Every October 31, both children and adults slip into the night as ghouls and goblins, princesses and pirates. Many Americans celebrate the traditions of Halloween by dressing in costumes and telling tales of witches and ghosts. Pumpkins are carved into glowering jack-o'-lanterns. Children parade from house to house, knocking on doors and calling out "Trick or treat!" hoping to have their bags filled with candy. It can be a night of fun for those who participate, but the history of Halloween in America has a darker side.

Why we usually dress-up on Halloween?

Every year, kids — and sometimes adults — dress up in ridiculous outfits and storm the streets, on a mission to ring strangers' doorbells and fill bags with candy. As kids, we accept trick-or-treating as normal behavior, but the October 31 tradition is really quite strange when you think about it.

We dress up on Halloween because of the following reasons:

We dress so we will feel like we’re “in” and is ready for what other people are up to. We don’t want to feel outcaste on what’s hot and what’s brewing! We think of something that’s on trend, we dress-up like The Avengers, Miley Cyruz and the like-Justin Bieber. But it is still a trend to be dressed on your scariest form. It’s never out of trend, you’re just being on “the occasion”:

We dress-up because of what’s we’re used to doing. We dress because we want to reminisce our childhood days where we knock on doorsteps, asking for candies and stuffs.

Rummy Dhanoa It is interesting to read about Halloween.  In Mexico, it is celebrated but most of the attention goes to Dia de los Muertos.  It occurs at the same time and was orignially an AZtec festival
