The DIY Backyard
Seen on brokers’ tour last week was this backyard in Livermore. This homeowner invested in moderate enhancements to a mid-size backyard with very appealing results. A do-it-yourself backyard project, this really added to the overall appeal of the home. He did the work himself, and did an excellent job. Existing lattice topped fencing was given additional interest with the addition of wooden trellises and perimeter planter boxes. Notice how extending the planter box around the tree area gives the yard a cohesive look and a focal point. He added interlocking bricks for a walkway and patio, leaving a small sized lawn area, laid with new sod. Other greenery was used sparingly, but the end result truly gave this small yard the wow factor.
My favorite part of this DIY backyard project is the newfound ability to host and entertain. The patio area with table and chairs coupled by the open lawn area, gives guests the ability choose between lounging or playing in party games. A leisurely game of badminton or cornhole/bean bag toss are now very doable given the newly laid sod.
