For many locals Christmas season on Kauai officially "begins" at 6 p.m. on the first Friday of December when historic Rice Street in downtown Lihue hosts a holiday parade.
This is an event that invites crowd participation so bring your decorations if you want to be in the parade.
Spectators line the sidewalks and enjoy the scene as the street fills with a line of moving lights and Christmas cheer.
People walk or drive in this parade, decorating themselves or their vehicles with lights to celebrate the arrival of the Holiday Season.
The Lights on Rice Parade starts on Rice Street at the Vidinha Stadium and travels up to the Historic County Building. After they watch the parade people can walk through the small downtown section and see Lihue's Festival of Lights with most businesses decorated and several offering special holiday displays.
There is also a craft fair at the top of Rice Street sponsored by the Kauai Museum. The fair lasts all day from 9am-night and there are plenty of food vendors along with handmade gift items and more.
Happy Holidays on Kauai!
