We will miss this camp

We will miss this campNew York Forestry

Though it is far from anywhere and a long drive from camp to civilization, it was a great camp.

Friday morning we packed up our camp at sunrise, a camp that we stayed at far longer than most as we perform our inventory of the Tug Hill Plateau.

We stuck it out at this camp for the duration of all of our remotest plots for one main reason, it was the only place on this plateau that we could get phone and data coverage on our cell phones.

So nice to be able to send your data off to the client, or communicate with staff and family back home without having to leave camp to do so.

But now that all of the interior plots are done and the half of the project that is within a few miles of a real road are all that is left, we will be moving on to two camps along the main roads.

Though these new camps do not have good cell coverage, they are at least on roads that are plowed.

So now we no longer have to get panicky every time a few flakes of snow start to fall, for fear of getting stranded on a mountain until spring.

Good morning Bob. Heading home or another location far from home?

Not having phone service is a challenge for sure, but that has happened before.

Thanks for sharing the photos.

Good Tuesday morning Bob Crane -

After our last September wilderness camping trip we both decided we like a bed better than the ground.  Ah... but I bet we end up going again next year.  It's too cold in the high mountain for another adventure this year.

Bob looks like you packed up in time.  Before long those fears of being snowed in may have become a reality.

Most of your camps have some sort of sentimetal value to them.  But the ones you are at the longest, and the ones furthest from home seem to have the most meaning to them.

Hi Bob Crane ,  I'm glad you were able to enjoy your stay.  Apparently you were not annoyed by those blood sucking varmints....Oh the mosquitoes too!

Oh, by the way, you were probably well past here when I saw the message on my computer.  Evelyn's battery was low, so she had it plugged in and missed your message. We felt bad about missing you, but I'm glad it wasn't on a Tuesday - Saturday.  Then it would have been disasterous!

As it turns out even though I did not get any coverage within a mile of the new camps when I was scouting them out, Nick called me from one of them this morning, his phone is better than mine.
