Of course we all know that Lenn Harley touts herself as being the copyright authority so let's hope she weighs in as our copyright expert.

I'm no expert so I'm hoping that the Ambassadors and other lend their experience.

Thanks David.  I'm sure we'll get a lot of valuable input here and on Kim's post. Excited to see what you have to say.

Thanks so much, Charita. Specifically, I'm wondering:

If you are attributing your source(s), do you also write/email/forward your draft blog post to the source asking permission? In this case, to the author of the realtor.com article? It seems this would be necessary according to the AR statement when we post. Or, do we opt out and indicate this is not our original content? Its a very gray area to me. Thank you everyone.

Kim I think the most important thing to remember with regard to copyright is making it clear that the post, idea, discovery, conclusion or otherwise is not your own.  And you do this by citing your source which you have clearly done.  I'm guessing that only the first paragraph is the only one which requires a citation.

If the remaining text in the post is your own content, then you have nothing to worry about.

Overall, I believe the post is well written, properly cited and adequate links to make your point and give your readers points of reference for further information.

Thank you again for posting my question, and answering   Your feedback is affirming and very helpful. My only stumbling block remains on AR's request we ask permission. How is that done?

Kim with regard to AR policy, the quickest way to that answer is to pose that question directly to the AR staff.  Can you provide a link to that requirement?

Hi Charita. I stumbled upon your post and read Kim Gaston 's post on the Realtor.com article. This was my reply:

I found this post from Charita Cadenhead 's post on Copyright Infringement. You've provided the source of the quote and included the article, which mentions Colorado Springs, so I don't believe there's any infringement to worry about. Even the AR points for a blog should be fair game. Does that answer your question?

Thanks for sharing. The more we learn, the more we know.

Charita Cadenhead , I really appreciate you posting my questions and have received great feedback in response to copyright violation. Citing the source and providing a link to the article is key.

I've sent my second question directly to AR regarding that little checkbox asking if you've received permission to publish before you post. I'll follow up with their answer. Thanks!

Thanks for the info, Charita Cadenhead.  I've only been blogging about two weeks, so any information is greatly appreciated.  And it's nice to find someone else in-state.  I'm in Gulf Shores.  :)
