Ask an Ambassador - What's All the Talk about Points?

I spoke with a brand spanking new Newbie this week and she was trying to publish her first blog post. She was having some trouble and thought maybe since she wasn't a paying member, she wasn't allowed to post. I told her that all members can post a blog. It was new blogger difficulty and she finally got it posted. See Cathi Weuve's first post here.

Then she asked what's all the talk about points? I don't know what they are for. Good question. So here are what points are all about.

• Points are an indicator of involvement and participation on the ActiveRain network.
  
  
• Points are just fun and we all need a little fun in our days and lives.
  
  
• Points accrue as you log on and make comments, write posts, answer questions on the  Q&A and have others like what you do.
  
  
• The Like button when clicked by others will give you points therefore the better you write the more Likes you are likely to get (no pun intended).
  
  
• Other members like watching your points go up. It shows your standing in the network.
  
  
• You are ranked on the ActiveRain Leaderboard by the number of points you have. In addition each state, county and city has a ranking and if you are one of the top point holders your photo and contact information will show up. 
  
  
• Many times when another member is looking for a referral agent, the member will go to the Leaderboards to see who is ranking. Points make you stand out and could earn you a referral.
  
  
• Points cost you nothing to get but your time. As you participate your point totals go up, up and up. When you reach 500,000 points you have a free account and do not have to pay for your full Rainmaker account. 
  
  
• When you get a million points you become an ActiveRain Millionaire. Since your account is already free you don't get anything else except lots of congratulations. This may be the only place some of us will ever be Millionaires. Some of our members have surpassed the 2,000,000 mark and on the way to 3,000,000. They are now Multi-Millionaires and they are rich in our books.
  
  
• Points are fun to talk about. It gives us reasons to write blogs and to congratulate one another for reaching point milestones.
  
  
• Points will earn you no trips to Tahiti (sorry Roger D. Mucci) or new washer and dryers. You cannot give them away or trade them or cash them in for cash. Once you earn them they are yours and only yours.
