Do Your Active Rain Peeps Know How to Refer Business to You?

AR Profile

As I was reading through the blog roll today, a question popped into my mind regarding AR referrals. I wondered if I was doing a good enough job letting other agents around the country know where my market is and that YES, I love referrals. It is often easy to do our daily AR work, blogging, commenting, questions, etc. without really looking to see where another member works and lives.

While reading Mike Cooper's featured post today and saw that he is from Virginia, I thought that I needed to reach out to him as a large company in his area is moving folks my way. I have been following Mike for many years here in the Rain yet had never let it register where he was from. Luckily for me, it is clearly identified on his blog and on his personal page.

Take a moment to assess your own personal blog and information. Sometimes we leave off important information that would make it easy for another AR member to see where you are from or what your area of expertise is. This could potentially make the difference between you getting a nice referral over someone whose information is more difficult to decipher.

Make sure your area of expertise and your phone numbers are included so people don't need to search all over to find out how to contact you. I want you all to know that I am YOUR go-to Texas gal for The Woodlands, Magnolia, Tomball, Spring, Conroe and farm and ranch market.  I have lived in my area for 30 years and know it well.

Referrals are wonderful and I have the distinct privilege of working with many Active Rain referrals over the years. This is one of the best things about Active Rain! So take a look and notice where other members live so the next time you know of someone moving to that area you can get in on the wonderful AR network!

Happy referring!

Don Davies, GRI "AshevilleRealEstateTrends.com" I believe you are missing out on some great referrals from relationships built here in the Rain. None of the referrals that I have received here have been "weak".  In fact, every one of them have resulted in closed transactions. The difference I believe is these were AR members who picked up the phone and called me. They were not simply picked up from the referral page.

Just as our own real estate businesses are about people, referrals are as well. The more we get to know one another via this site, the more likely we will receive a personal referral.

And by the way, the word "Peep" is not a derogatory term at all. Maybe you just got up on the wrong side of the bed?

Hope you take the time to really get to know the wonderful people here in the Rain. It is a warm, caring and generous community.

I LOVE referrals and try very hard to let people know exactly where I am doing business. Seems not everyone has this in their profile. A missed opportunity when not done properly.

The profiles on many don't spell out where they handle their real estate shingle. How would you know like some websites where good luck finding all the contact information. Make it plain as day where you live, work, play and do the real estate dog and pony. That's what it is all about in the hokey pokey. Hey.

This is a great post. When I am in need of an agent to referr to, I always look at AR to find who is in the area. Then I try to find out their style from the way they interact on AR. After that, I call and talk with them to determine if they reflect the standards I have set. Then I can make the referral.

Since I am in Southwest Florida, I encounter people from all over the country. They also contact me from SEO and I like to help other agents get a good opportunity for business.

Referrals come from many places and relationships.  I don't think anyone ONLY uses ActiveRain, but it is a great source to locate referral agents in areas you don't already have a great source.

All our leads are offered through eMail inititally. That includes listings. They want to know if I am interested. If I get a call wanting to give me a referral from a stranger it could most likely to be a spammer.

On AR, those without complete info about his/her including a license # I pass.  I also use corporate directory go straght to their broker for nomination.

Great reminder, Paula McDonald ... I'd certainly not want to miss a referral for overlooking something so obvious!  But I'm hoping my name is synonymous with Chicagoland/IL ... and Mortgage Lending ... in the eyes of other AR members and those I share with via my social media ...

Paula.  Thank you for your great reminder about having our information clearly spelled out on our Profile.  I have used AR for a few referrals ... in fact when I have needed a referral it's the first place I look and then I try other platforms I am a part of.  Either way, our involvement plays a big part in being chosen as a go-to agent.  I appreciate your insights! From Wisconsin to Texas ... hoping we can do some referral business together in the future! Best Wishes

Paula-Thanks for your post. I had to look on a map to see in  what part of Texas you lived, and saw it is not anywhere close to my past Texas trails. Keep up your writing and should I find anyone going your way from Delaware (or anywhere), I'll give you a shout!

Very good point, Paula.  From my blog it may not be apparent that I'm located squarely between Houston and Galveston and have worked both markets.  As a native Texan and Houstonian, I know the area well.

Interesting and amusing to see the various kinds of comments your post generated, Paula McDonaldI would be delighted to be considered one of your "peeps."     I must thank Kat Palmiotti for weighing in on this discussion, too!

Paula McDonald you have a very good point.

When I look at some profile, it's even hard for me the find out where the member is from!

If I'd like to refer someone and do little more research, it's perfectly fine, however, if I know just by looking at their profiles, they won half the battle!
