Why Don't You Answer Your Phone???

This is a random blog post inspired by events that occured today.

I notice a lot of Agent often wonder what is the secret to being successful in the real estate business.  Although there are many different reasons some Agents are more successful than other, there is one element I find consistent among Agents who arent successful.  THEY DON'T ANSWER THEIR PHONES!!!

I had to call a few agents today for various reasons and some answered the phone, but many of them did not.  Out of the calls that did not answer, I only received a couple call backs.  How can you conduct a successful business if you don' t answer the call?  You may have prospective clients calling you right now to request your services to purchase or list their home but you will miss the opportunity because you did not answer the call.

This business is about building relationships and maintaining existing relationships.  You can do all the marketing you want and spend thousands of dollars but if you don't answer your phone or respond to emails in a timely fashion, it is all wasted money.

I've also emailed other Agents who take days to respond back.  I have to send a follow up email to the initial email just to get a response.  How can you run a successful business if you do not respond to emails in a reasonable time?

In this era, our clients want Agents who respond to their requests quickly.  Our cliens want to know information NOW and not later.  Of course we can't be availabl 24/7 but during normal business hours (I saw that with a smile on my face because what is normal business hours to a Realtor!), you should be able to respond to leads and client inquiries in a short period of time.

There are a lot of new Agents entering the market these days because the market overall is doing well.  Start with good habits by answering you phone and emails in a timely manner.  Don't lose potential clients because you didn't answer the call!!!

You are right. It is very annoying to leave messages and not get a call back. I don't understand not answering a call.

I hate feeling like a stalker in order to get someone to answer their phone or call back!

Cute pic with Mr Bean, yes Tabitha many are afraid to use their phones or communicate in any way, maybe they will be out of business soon.

Hi Tabitha Rector-Richardson I have always wondered how some of these agents stay in business. They certainly make things more difficult for everyone.  Great post.

Tabitha,
Some of the guru’s teach agents to take messages and only call back once or twice a day. I think this is  a very bad practice.

I realize as you get more business it becomes increasingly harder to manage your time.  However, I just don't see how not answering your phone is the answer.  Personally I try to communicate with existing clients via email so that I am not spending a lot of time chit chatting on the phone and leave the line open for new prospects.

Tabitha, answering the phone is something I try to always do. When I call someone else for a service and they do not answer I figure they don't need my business.
