AMC at the Movies Reclining and Relaxing in the Woodhaven Boutique Theater

My grand daughter Alexis laughed at me when she saw my new screen saver . So really ask me if I care . If you read my blogs you know how much I love to go to the movies .  Now with these ultra comfortable seats I am hooked . I am going to tell my story for those who may not read my movie reviews .

My mother loved movies . When I was a little girl she would say " you can stay home from school today and go to the movies instead " We would go downtown to the beautiful movie theaters with crystal chandeliers  . We were escorted to our seats by ushers. These were men dressed in uniforms and little round hats and flash lights . There were also balcony seating  as well as seats on the floor . When the movies were getting ready to start a big red velvet curtain would pull back ( like when Active Rain is working behind the scenes but much grander )

Believe me I learned quite a bit of history from the movies I saw .I learned some things I shouldn't either but all in all I learned to love  movies . I passed this on to my children and now to my grandchildren . I will say I was devastated when they tore down the beautiful elaborate movie theaters many many years ago .

Now they have made up for it . What an experience it is for me to go to a movie  I think of my Mother and I can see her face and hear her voice of excitement as i push the reclining button to relax in the chair. She was only 4' 10 so she would be very comfortable

My grandson slept over and we went to see Goosebumps .I did not know this was a series of books for children all thrown together  For Aidan who is 8 years old it was perfect as he had read one or two of the books and seeing the movie  had encouraged him to read a few more . It was a little scary  I will show a preview as he really enjoyed it

So I have this wallpaper on my phone of my legs at the movies . Knowing I can always escape to

AMC at the Movies Reclining and Relaxing in the Woodhaven Boutique Theater

In case you have children or like Goosebumps  here is a preview  There were adults  that when we left said wow there is going to be a sequel

Great contest Dick Greenberg  as Deborah Kerr 1956  in the "King and I" said "getting to know you "

I do change my wallpaper around like the seasons

This is such a cool story Hannah. I have memories of the old movie houses, downtown Chicago used to be full of them and back in the day people would go just to cool off, not many other places had AC.

I am very jealous!!  The best we get are big comfy couches that cost $21 a ticket to sit in.  I'd love a recliner, that's how I watch all my movies at home, on an L shapped couch with my feet up.

Silvia Dukes PA, REALTOR, CRS, CIPS, SRES  I am spoiled this is the only place I will go to the movies .They are very reasonable in their pricing too only $7.99  to see a movie  and if you are a senior on Tuesday it is half price all day & night

Larry Johnston  That is so cool . Speaking with so many people I do not think I have ever met anyone who was an usher . It is so nice to go back in time and remember those days that are long gone or Gone in the Wind

Thank you both for your comments

Noah Seidenberg  Wow Yes I forgot there were places that were not air conditioned .The movies were the perfect place to cool off . Good one Noah .

Ryan Huggins  $21 to see a movie that is outragous  ! You should be jealous AMC makes it very reasonable to see a movie in comfort . I thought when they put this new seats in the price would go through the roof ;but they stayed the same . You can see a movie for $7.99 a 3D movie  $12.50

Very jealous!!!  Out here we have too many people with more money than sense, it seems.  $21 isn't the most expensive either.  There are some places that charge close to $30 AND they interrupt you by having waitresses bringing you food and drink.  It's no wonder I only see 1-3 movies in the theater per year!

We do have an older theater that shows every movie for $5 on Tuesdays and a second run theater (movies out of the main theaters, but not yet on DVD) that is $3 all day every day.

There's something about being enveloped into the the story Hannah Williams. This feeling can only be obtained in a large screen movie theater...

I had never read of your childhood movie experiences before!

While I was away I saw Bridge of Spies.  I think I go to the movies at least once a week and last weekend we did a double header!!

Ryan Huggins  That is very discouraging I would not enjoy going to the movies as much as I do in that kind of situation

Paul S. Henderson, Realtor, Tacoma Washington  You have not been reading as many of my movie review as you used to either . Yes there is something about watching a movie on the big screen and the sound so incredible . Yes I grew up in the movies .Saturdays were also double features  we walked to the movie for $.25 we watched two movies and $.10 pop corn .

Thank you both for your comments

Oh Joanna Cohlan  You are way ahead of me .  I am a spoiled brat . I only go to this boutique theater . If it is not playing there I do not see it .. I heard they are making another theater close by United Artist into a reclining theater so I may have a choice ;but I do not think I shall ever sit in those uncomfortable seats again .

Thank you for your input

Hannah, I really had to laugh at the "Goosebumps" trailer.  Clearly, playing hooky with your mom didn't get in the way of your education!

Wayne and Jean Marie Zuhl  This theater does not wait on you . You have to get your own goodies ..Then relax ..

Patricia Kennedy To tell you the truth Goosebumps was a little scary especially the dummy reminded me of an old Hitchcock short where the dummy was the human & human the dummy .... but I learned a lot of history watching movies with MOM

Hannah,

I love movies but never seem to have the time to go to the theatre though I do want to see Spectre. There are several that are coming out now, I think in my next home I want a media room so I can stay home and watch them!

Hannah, start to finish what a delight! Yes, those bygone days of the "theuta" are missed by the likes of me as well!

One of the moments I remember best: Gone with the Wind. I recall INTERMISSION and going to the bathroom and seeing my tearstained face and red eyes--oh I was a mess!

One of my most favorite things ever: to go to the movies alone. Can't do that in the middle of nowhere and I sold our fabulous theatre room so I can't do that either!

Darn. I will have to live vicariously through you.

Yolanda Cordova-Gilbert  I watch movies at home .Have all the movie channels .There is something magical about seeing a movie the way it was meant to see . In a theater with amazing sound that surrounds you . Now there are some movies that are just as good at home .The Intern I saw in the movies that will be as good at home as it was in the movies .. You will miss the magic of many movies if you wait to view them at home . Take it from one who loves movies .

Thank you for taking the time to comment

Hello Hannah,  You have now introduced a second movie I have not even seen previews to.  Snowden was great.  Thank you.  This is a must.  Don't believe it is playing local yet.  This weekend is Ben Affleck and 'Accountant'.  I enjoyed his action 'Paycheck' where he was extremely intelligent and this looks to have much the same.  I will let you know Hannah.  Thanks again for the heads up on 'Goosebumps'  Mark
