I told you so!

Services for Real Estate Pros with Marte Cliff Copywriting

Almost every time I write a post about grammar, word usage, or proofreading, someone comes up with the idea that I never make these mistakes - or that they have to be super-careful in commenting because I'll ... I don't know what. Think less of them, comment about it and embarras them, turn them into the grammar police? I don't know.

Anyway, I keep telling everyone that I make mistakes just like everyone else. Yes, I do proofread my work before I send it. Sometimes I go over it many times, checking for goofy errors.

But still...

Here's an email I got this morning in response to my weekly newsletter:

Marte

Just a note, for a writer, you messed this up: “ I learned log ago from marketer…….” From your recent email Dated Nov. 5  Maybe it should be the word Long not Log.

I read and re-read that newsletter about 6 times before I hit "send" and I still missed that typo.

So it just goes to show... I told you that I make mistakes just like everyone else, and I do!

Hey, it's good to know you are human! Everyone makes mistakes. I will never write as well as you, but that's ok...I am improving little by little. :)

I am always thankful for the tips and information you share, but I've never even considered you'd report me to the grammar police. LOL  I'd almost be wililng to bet I always have a mistake somewhere in the comments and in every post.  Grammar isn't my thing.  Now if you need a math problem done, call me.

We're all human. As a matter of fact, I had to read the sentence a few times (before finishing the emailer's note) to find it myself. No harm, no foul!

Well, the old adage "Those who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones" may be appropriate.  However, I do agree that sometimes the illiteracy goes a bit too far. My biggest pet peeve is your/you're and their/they're/there.

Pat Starnes I don't see anything wrong with your writing - so just keep on doing it!

Tammy Lankford I have a dear friend who sends me all of her letters to edit before she sends them - she gets her words so mixed up that I sometimes laugh out loud. She is, however, a professional accountant. We each have our own talents.

NW Real Estate |Colleen Fischesser & CO Serving Seattle-Tacoma area Since 1990! Obviously - I read it several times and didn't see it at all!

David Barr Yes, those annoy me too, along with a dozen or two other pairs that are continually misused.

Raymond E. Camp That's what I keep trying to tell everyone - I'm just human and do make mistakes. I wish you a great day as well.

There is an odd thing that sometimes happens when I write and post blogs.  The blog I thought I wrote has mistakes that I detect the minute I post and re-read.  If I didn't have the original in a Word document, I'd swear a gremlin was in sabotage mode!

Kathy Streib You are more than welcome!

Myrl Jeffcoat Yes, that happens to me too. I don't mind so much when it's a blog post and I can hurry up and fix it - when it's my weekly newsletter, once it's sent, it's sent.

Still... I do believe in gremlins!

Confession is good for the soul, Marte Cliff .  LOL   It is difficult to proofread our own work.  It is some psychologicial phenomenon that tells our brain not to find errors.  Always good to have another set of eyes review, if possible.

Carol Williams It certainly is! Because I don't have a second set of eyes handy, I tend to read and re-read several times. But still... I miss something now and then.

We all make mistakes.  It's nice to have our friends here on AR point them out in a nice way.

Chris Ann Cleland That gentleman was nice about it - but he just thought it was so funny. He couldn't get over the idea of a copywriter making a mistake. He told me so in 3 different emails.
