Resizing Photos with Outlook

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX The Producers ~ Omaha Nebraska

Are you tired of waiting so long for your photos to upload to the internet?  Many of us take our own digital pictures and most cameras are 5 mega pixel or greater that they sell today.  Knowing that my digital photos are much more than any monitor can display and I am not worried about the consumer wanting to crop or I started to resize all my pictures and have saved myself hours of time.

At first I would open every picture and resize it and resave it.  I considered changing the settings on my digital camera to take the pictures at a lower resolution so that I wouldn't have to resize the photos, but concerned I would forget to change it back I didn't like that idea either.  So I came up with the following and it works great.  I can now resize all my photos in just a couple of minutes using my e-mail software not a photo editor.  So hear are the instructions I have created for resizing your photos using outlook.  My photos went from 2 MB each to 85 KB.

  1. Open up your e-mail and start creating a new e-mail message.
  2. Address the e-mail to yourself. Put the property address in the subject line.
  3. Click on the attach button and select the photos.  I usually do 10 photos at a time.  Now outlook will open a dialog box with the heading attachment options.  The bottom of it says Picture options.  By default it will say "Don't resize, send originals" click on the drop downOutlook Screen SHot and select Large (1024 x 768 px)
  4. Press the send button.

  5. Depending on your e-mail provider wait just a couple of minutes and you will get a new e-mail and attached are your photos at 1024 x 768 photos.
  6. Select all the attached files and save them.

I hope this saves some of you some time.  If you have any questions feel free to contact me.

There's also a neat little app that's part of Microsoft Windows Powertoys that allows you to right-click a photo and resize it from any explorer window.

Puts People In Their Places!!

Brad,

Thanks for this post!  I'm working on one of my first REO assignments and sent photos to the Asset Account Manager.  Later in the afternoon, I received an email from her that said I needed to resize my photos... all 17 of them.  Your post walked me right through the process and now I can start on my next project!

Thanks again!
