This is harder than it sounds. If the task were to enumerate 25 things for which I am grateful, that would be far easier. Naming five? That takes some thought.
First and foremost, I am grateful for parents who taught me the meaning - and importance - of honesty, ethics and good old fashioned hard work. Without that foundation, I doubt I would be the type of real estate agent I am today.
And as I have gotten older, I have become much more aware of how many folks did not have the benefit of a healthy family foundation and have paid the price for it, in so many different ways. My appreciation for the gift of two wonderful, loving parents who have never given a second thought to doing whatever was necessary for their family grows every single day.
Second of all, I am grateful for my husband who has never been anything other than 100% supportive of whatever career choices I have made. And as other real estate agents know, having family support is crucial as we often work long, crazy hours, miss meals and fall a little short when it comes to pitching in on the housework.
Sometimes the fridge is a little empty and dinner can often mean whatever can be delivered, be it pizza or Chinese food.
Through it all, my husband has never complained (even though he does not like Chinese food), despite his own work schedule and travel being even more demanding than mine at times. He has always held up not only his end of the bargain, but taken on my share as well whenever needed. That is the definition of a partnership in my book.
I am grateful to live in a country that allows me the freedom to be educated and work in any field I desire. I am grateful that I am not denied opportunites because I am female, that I am not required to dress a certain way and that I can pursue a career for which I have a true passion.
While I am on the subject, I am also very grateful for the military that keeps us safe, as well as for first responders who come to our aid at the drop of a hat, with no regard to their personal safety. Where would we be without these folks?
I am also grateful for the advent of business technology that makes my life - and the lives of so many real estate agents - so much easier than it has ever been. I'm grateful I'm not sitting with a client in person thumbing through a book of listings instead of being able to peruse the MLS on my own time, even if it is the middle of the night.
Technology allows us to reach clients who are thousands of miles away, allows us to work efficiently and allows us to work from home offices. Technology equals convenience and efficiency in my book and I am grateful every single day for it.
Finally, I am truly grateful to live a life of abundance that allows us to live the life we want, in a place we want to be, doing jobs we truly love, being surrounded by an amazing number of friends and wonderful family members. I try to face every single day with an attitude of gratitude, which I think only enhances my business.
Thanks to Happy Grasshopper for sponsoring this contest and allowing me to express just how grateful I am!
