Stand Out By Making The Implicit Explicit!

As a luxury real estate marketing professional your brand must stand out in a crowded marketplace. In other words, you need to find a way to make what it implicit about YOU, explicit.

In the crowded wine industry we recently noticed that one of the wineries bottled their un-oaked Chardonnay in a gray ceramic bottle. Mer Soleil Silver decided to bottle their un-oaked Chardonnay this way to pay homage to the cement tanks/ instead of the oak barrels in which the classic Chardonnay ferments.

This is a relatively new fermentation method that we had not previously heard of; the bottle, or shall we say their “packaging” definitely caught our attention. By making the implicit (to them) explicit for us, we became aware of an entirely new category of wine-making.

We were not compelled to buy it, even after learning about the new method. But, the brand SILVER is “tattooed” in our brain. That is good branding!

How can you make the implicit aspects of your brand explicit?

That ceramic bottle definitely stands out in the crowd of other glass wine bottles.

Hi Ron & Alexandra - Now that's interesting. One of the things I dislike about most chardonnays is that they're over-oaked, so I'll keep an eye out for that one. Thanks!

Ron & Alexandra that silver bottle certainly does stand out in a crowded wine market.  Very clever idea!

An excellent catch phrase "The Implicit Explicit" Ron & Alexandra. I like how you show us by example.

Clever branding yes, but a reluctance to try it. I need to think on that for awhile

Hi Alexandra and Ron --- interesting concept -- true.  But it didn't persuade you to purchase.  Was it timing?  Or are you not a fan of chardonnay?

Michael Jacobs we both love a good Chardonnay.  We have tasted the big buttery oaky ones and they are a bit overwhelming.  The best in the category is Rombauer.  We like a more balanced one that is started in stainless steel vats, and then moved to oak to age, like Grgich, and ZD being our fave.

Our find that we are in love with comes from TJ's  It is French Grande Ardeche, from Louis Latour at a mind boggling value $9.95.  We instantly bought a couple of bottles.

Un-oaked does not do it for me, although I may try this one at some point.  The ceramic bottle evokes memories of Lancer Rosé that Ron"s uncle served at Thanksgiving with great panache...yuk!  A

Alexandria --- LOL - I was racking my brain trying to remember the Lancers "brand" and those ceramic bottles(did they have a terra cotta as well as a green version?  The containers that is, not the content).   I'm not much of a Chardonnay fan anymore but I do have nice memories of both Rombauer and Grgich Hills.

Michael Jacobs yes they had a horrific white version in a green bottle...Try the French one, I think you will like it.  It really highlights the grape.   If you have the chance try ZD, they make small quantities, and they also have an amazing Cab that they make.  A

Ron & Alexandra, I love the way you make the implicit, explicit. Branding is so important, and I am still learning and working on what works. Your post was helpful to me. Thanks

I saw this link in your current blog and I had to read it, yes we saw some in Chile when we were there because of earthquakes that is what some of the wineries do, do like the branding just really not into the Chards these days!

Was reading your response to Michael Jacobs LOL that is one I had reviewed and one of our favorites, I guess I do not think of French Wines as Chardonnays..but it is... I guess I should have clarified the above comment to US Chardonnays these days, I have not liked the new release of Rombauer, t the French Grande Ardeche sells here for 14.95 the cheapest so at 9.95 it is a great value they do not sell that at our TJ's!

Yolanda Cordova-Gilbert I have not tasted the new release of Rombauer.  I think the Grande Ardeche is fabulous.  And like you, I am not that crazy about Chards. A

I'm not really a wine drinker and I don't really pay that much attention to packaging. Interesting how they incorporated this change in aging the wine into their marketing.
