Dallas' Veterans Day Ceremonies will begin with the massing of the colors at 11:00 AM, in front of Dallas City Hall. U.S. Congressman Pete Sessions will be the keynote speaker at the ceremony.
The Veterans Day Parade will follow the City Hall activities. This year, the parade them is "Commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the End of World War II." Seven WWII Veterans are serving as grand marshals. The enthusiasm of those who attend this parade is incredible! The parade will begin in front of the old Reunion Arena area, travel north on Houston, turn east on Main, travel south on Ervay, turn west on Young and south on Akard.
Today is the day we take time to thank all Veterans. I will be thinking about my late father, who served as a Navy pilot in the South Pacific. It is also a day to pay tribute to my brother-in-law, Col. Christopher Chun, Deputy Surgeon at Eighth US Army, who served in Iraq. His dad, Howard Chun, a Vietnam Veteran, served in the Army Corps of Engineers. Howard was recently featured in an article written by Josh McGhee to honor Chinese-American Veterans.
