Fall in Carlsbad - Our Leaves DO Change Color

Yes, it's true, although many people from other parts of the country don't realize it.

 Fall Leaves in Carlsbad CA

We have fall here in SoCal and our leaves DO change color. It's true we don't have quite the splendor of fall colors so many other areas are known for because there are fewer trees that do change, but the contrast of fall colors with the palm trees (above), I think, typifies fall here in Carlsbad on a gorgeous day with bright blue skies.

Gorgeous pictures, Jeff. We have beautiful fall colors in Charlotte, too, which surprises a lot of people who think because we are in the South the colors don't change the way they do in colder climates.

People probably just don't think of deciduous trees in California, but they are all going to change color when they get less daylight.

It was a gorgeous Fall day to day, just right for leaf photos. I was kinda surprised myself our first year year, but some areas really are quite beautiful. Sounds like you have had the same reaction about Fall in NC!

It's a good thing given where you live. I enjoy it from a distance on the mountains we can see from Carlsbad, or on the weather channel. LOL

Hi Jeff, thank you for sharing your Fall colors.  They are similar to what we see here in Florida.  Typically, they get better later in the year.

While they change colors, do they actually fall off the trees as well?

Jeff Dowler CRS I think you "imported" those trees from back east. I have nothing but green (and a little brown) in my area.

And we are half-way through Fall.

Some of the foliage this year has been beautiful and reminds me of New England. Some, sadly due to the drought, has simply beem turning brown and falling

Yep they do, just lke back east. Then they bud out in the spring. We just have fewer trees like this. I enjoy what we have

Hi Jeff -- and there are some people who think those along the Pacific Coast can only tell seasonal shifts when the surfers change the colors of the wet suits they wear.   We are so much more than that, right?

That's so true. And yes we ARE so much more. I like our changes of seasons - less drama than elsewhere. We JUST turned our heat on for the first time last night, but this is not a regular occurence in the fall and winter, thankfully. It was 46 the other morning - chilly for us
