First of all I'm a creature of habit and resist change MOST of the time. But not when it comes to my wallpaper. And in the history of my being at ActiveRain three times I've been so inspired by a photo taken and posted by a friend here that I asked them for a copy of it. Once it was Susan Mangigian 's neighbor's tree. It was lovely. And I know that tree has been gone for a while now, but Susan knows I loved it and appreciate it and it was my computer wall paper for about a year. Another time it was Steve Loynd and he'd taken the sweetest photos from his window of bear cubs and I just loved them. I left him a comment that I really loved that photo and he sent me a good resolution one via email and that was my wall paper for a few months. The last time it was the amazing photography work of Melissa McKinney. It was a lighthouse she took an amazing HD shot of and I said, wow, I'd love to have that turned into a puzzle for my mom and she uploaded an amazingly high resolution copy to dropbox for me so I could do just that. That photo was my wall paper for a while too.
So as you can tell my wall paper is not so much a connection to that photo as it it is a connection to the people behind that photo. I'm very happy to say that I truly consider all three of those people among my circle of friends.
That brings me to the "new kids in town my life". It was a smiggin more than a year ago that my daughter had told me about a friend from church. Abigail was involved in a "small group" Bible study and mentioned that one of the couples sometimes had babysitting issues. They have 5 children which is challenging in itself, but one of their, at the time 2 year old, twins has cerebral palsy. So finding a baby sitter for them was sometimes beyond something they could do.
Well my Abigail knows me well and she just said, "my mom will do it" because she knew I love babies and of course I would. So one Saturday we got the call. And we totally fell in love with those babies that night. As many of you remember we had lost our Christmas decorations in a fire in January of 2014. When we went to babysit that night they had been shopping to buy us some ornaments. Those children were so happy to give us those gifts. The girls in the back and Braley and Makala, the boys in the front are Laston, James and Jonah. I'd love for you to take just a moment out of your day to click over to facebook to see James talking. This time last year that wasn't happening. He has made so much progress in the past year and it makes my heart sing with joy to see. Recently Donald and I went to Grandparents day at school with Braley who is 4 years old. That was both fun and heartbreaking. Her tears when it was time for us to leave after breakfast just tugged at me for days. We love to go and visit. We take over pizza sometimes and the kids just love that. I just love those kids. I love their parents too. Tasha and Kevin are wonderful parents.
Then there is my phone. Until recently I had a nice Donald photo there, but then a family event happened. It's an annual tradition to go to the Georgia National Fair in October and while there Abigail got my phone and of course changed the wallpaper from Donald to her. She did at least make it nice face this time. And the photo includes Michael and I don't know when I'll get around to changing it back to Donald, but it will happen and that wall paper photo looks like this.
This photo of Donald will stay on my phone until the next time I'm with my daughter and she notices it's NOT HER again and then I'll get something typical from her like this one.
Also taken by her this year at the fair, yet somehow didn't make it to my wall paper. However, she did edit my contacts so this is what I get to see pop up on the screen when she calls. Oh and she set my ring tone for when she calls to this. Hey, she's got a great sense of humor, like her mama.
