Gratitude fills our days, because we never could have gotten to where we are without the support, encouragement and assistance of many others. And even with the advantage of limiting Dan Stewart's 5 Years of Thankfulness contest to what directly affects our business, it's still difficult to limit ourselves to mentioning only five items.
I'm grateful, and very lucky, to be part of a team with the best Realtor I've ever met. Mary is a consummate professional with a fierce devotion to client service and a true love for the profession. She's the one that does the heavy lifting, and as I have said many times, if it weren't for her, I'd probably be living under a bridge. She's taught me so many valuable lessons and serves as my daily inspiration.
I'm grateful that we work in an industry that offers so many opportunities to help others in a significant way. Finding a home for someone who never thought they would own one, getting a young couple off on a perfect start for their family adventure, or helping someone solve a difficult financial problem - those are the things that make it all worth while for us.
I'm grateful that we have decided to own and manage an independent brokerage. We're our own bosses, and we decide where our business goes and how we get there. Our working philosophy, our vision, our goals, and our work environment are the result of our efforts, and we answer only to ourselves, our clients, and what we hope are the highest standards of the industry.
I'm grateful for our success, and also grateful that we understand the fragility of it. There's no room in this business for complacency, but having the freedom to make decisions based on what's right, rather than what's financially beneficial at the moment, has helped us keep our focus on long-term returns and benefits, and kept us proud of what we do.
And I'm grateful for ActiveRain, and especially its members, because being a part of a vital and welcoming community, loaded with great resources, and packed with good people, has helped us stay centered and greatly extended our ability to do our job better and to have more fun doing it. Being here over the last 4+ years has kept the wolves of cynicism and burnout from the door and rekindled my enthusiasm.
