Do You Remember Your First?

Your First Listing or Sale

Do You Remember Your First?

Many years ago when I started selling real estate, I knocked on a door that had a FBSO sign on the front porch. During my 2 week training, the company had suggested door knocking but I had dismissed this idea since I hate people knocking on my door.

Well, to make a long story short, the very nice couple called me 1 day later and said "Please bring the contracts over as we are ready to have you list our home". This of course was music to my ears! I sold it within 25 days which seemed like an eternity back then. I closed it within 30 days and of course was very excited.

The sellers were such nice people and this photo reminds me of them and their lovely home in South Redlands, CA.

One of my lender friends, Kerry Mutter, brought me over this gift. This gift meant so much to me and it still is displayed in my office. Giving a framed photo is such a great way to memorialize an agent's hard work and in this case "my first listing".

I will always remember my first listing and first closing. Do you remember yours?

Kristin, what a great story, and at this moment, cannot remember my first listing.   I had buyers right off the bat, and it was very exciting!

Thats a great story, and I can certainly remember "very vividly" my first listing and my first sale.  Both fond memories.  I wish I had taken a photograph, that would have been nice to have. Thanks for sharing

Hi Joyce Marsh

I was sitting in my office this morning staring at this photo and thought it would be a nice photo to share. Good memories and a great friend and lender who was so thoughtful.

Hi Kristin Hamilton CA Realtor I do remember my first sale. It was 1975 and I was working with a GI buyer. I sold them a cute little house in Inglewood. The sellers were Italian descent. The house smelled so good from all the Italian cooking. The buyers were black. It was an all white neighborhood. They were the first blacks in the area. Now it is mostly black, but still a very nice neighborhood, near the Forum. The sales price was $35,000.00.

In those days I specialized in VA buyers and sellers. Mostly we did GI NO NOs, which were VA loans with nothing down and NO CLOSING COSTS. Very easy.

Hi Bill Roberts

Wow, that must have been amazing to do with no money down and no closing costs. I remember my parents would always get CALVET loans. I remember they bought a house in 1968 for $54,000 and it was huge and very nice. I bet he was happy not to have all those fees.

Hi Kristin - Nice keepsake. I certainly remember Mary's - she, the seller and the buyer, were all scraping, painting and picking up old paint chips well into the wee hours of the night before. I wish we had a picture of that.

Hi Dick Greenberg

Oh it sounds like good times for you and Mary.  Many Sellers think we draft a contract and then close with a nice check. Some of the things we do to get the houses closed would make their heads spin. I have cleaned house while doing open houses when they were bad. Carry out trash bags of stuff  in my car to give home a clean look when there was no trash pick up, many other things just to be helpful and make the sale go smoothly. I probably did a lot more the first few years where I now call someone to do it for me. Good times??

Great story, Kristen.  I definitely remember my first, even though it was more than 40 years ago.
