What does it mean to have mature landscaping? One request a buyer may make to their Realtor is they want a home with mature landscaping. In the Austin area that many times means that the buyers want large trees in the front and back yard. There are some beautiful properties with lovely large trees all around the Austin area.

As you think through a desire for mature landscaping keep these things in mind.

1. Mature trees often require professional care and that can be expensive. Trimming the tree, cleaning up the leaves and keeping them in good health.

2. Mature Landscape may mean fixed landscape. In some cases the landscape may be set and you may not be able to do more or add more to it without removing old landscaping at a huge cost.

3. Mature tree can also mean root problems in plumbing, foundation, sidewalks and porches.

Yes mature landscape can be lovely and for many people it is the perfect touch to a beautiful home. Before you choose it make sure you understand the cost of having a mature landscape.

Alan,
Those large mature trees also:

# 1 Use the available water so grass can’t grow, and

# 2 The shade keeps grass from growing.

Big tree often equals no grass.

With a recent snowstorm that came through our area, we saw the price of having those big mature trees. A lot of them couldn't handle the weight of the extremely wet snow, and branches were down all over town...knocking out power and blocking roads. It was a mess. Of course you wouldn't have this problem in Austin, but it help to make your point that older trees do need to be maintained. A strong wind could do the same kind of damage.
