Charlotte NC Top Place for African Americans!

By
Real Estate Agent with Leigh Brown & Associates, RE/MAX Executive

A BET report released today names Charlotte, NC as the best place in the country for African Americans!  Very cool accolade to receive.  The article in the Charlotte Observer talks about various factors used to develop the rankings-one of which is the high homeownership rate among African Americans in our fair city.

This makes me very proud that we can not only SAY we are diverse and encouraging of one another here, but PROVE it. =)

Now, I'm a little biased, because I love my city.  But do you suppose this ranking has anything at all to do with the fact that the head of BET, Bob Johnson, is the owner of our city's NBA team (the Charlotte Bobcats), and owns property here?  Coincidence? I'll take it.

Its because you have a middle-class city. A city that is responsive to the general welfare of its people is going to be more productive. I bet you even have some Repubilcans in government.

Leigh, we too have a well diverse community here in Middletown Connecticut.  Our minority ratio in our public schools the last time I checked was over 35%, and several of the area properties are owned by minorities.

This is the biggest reason why I sent my kids to public instead of private school.  Living, working, and going to school with others who are of a different race and culture than we are, is something that is a must in life.

People in New Orleans do not do that . The public schools are 98% black. They are not good except for a few. The middle class blacks would not risk their childs future in such a terribe system. I agree with your point on getting along and learning. I wish the poor system were not broken. Its been broken for 30 plus years as many have voted with their feet. What would you do?

Eric,

I would move to Iowa.  The best darn public schools in the country.  Private schools are not worth the extra money here (unless you're just wanting to throw your money around).  Just don't forget your shovel!

Leigh,

I'm sure that it is just a coincidence ;)

Lucky :)

Iowa is too cold. My kids went to Luthern schools for 13 years. You paid extra. 50% of the people do the same. It is not a bad idea to have faith and learn about how to be a good Christian. it could be invaluable down the line. This is basically a Catholic community that puts church education high on their priorities. The schools will give you a break if you need it. You as a parent pitch in and do more things at the school and for the school. This area is not rich so it still appeals to the masses. You mess up and you are out. The system has its good points.
