Weekend Wine Review Jean Richecourt Special Cuvee (Late)

By
Industry Observer

The Weekend Wine Review is a weekly series I will do on Monday’s featuring the wine tasted over the weekend. This past Friday as the horror of the events unfolding in Paris were streaming across the news , I went home and opened a bottle of French Wine we had to stand with France and say Viva la France. I have already reviewed that wine, so in keeping with standing with France we tried a bubbly Champagne Jean Richecourt which I had bought on sale. The Champagne was about $20 on sale and regularly about $30. This is Champagne has a vanilla, and honey taste to it with a touch of almond, it is very bubbly. A good everyday champagne perfect to make different kinds of champagne cocktails with. Cheers and Viva la France!

Yolanda,

Thanks for that review.  We too had what I would call a so-so champagne from Roederer (maker of Crystal) and I was disappointed at $40.  One of our friends who is a senior flight attendant for UA was vacationing in Paris.  She had been there for a week and a half.  On Thursday, she went to a lecture in the Jewish quarter, and somebody pointed up the offices of Charlie (where the January killings happened).  She got a shiver all over her body.  Later that evening, she found herself packing, and checked herself in on the Friday morning flight to San Francisco.  Her inner voice kept say, go-go-go home.  She landed in SF at 2:30PM, Friday afternoon, and her cell was ringing.  She was so happy she listened and devastated by the news.  A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel It is always good to listen to our little voice thanks for sharing that with me, our friend who retired from United is heading to London I told him to be careful we were thinking of going to London enxt month but now we have a wait and see attitude though we did go to Paris 2 weeks after Charlie killings...hmmm about Roederer, I had some last year and I really liked it.....

Maybe we just had a so so vintage.  My friend Jo at this point does not want to go anywhere in Europe now.  The hunt for the criminals has escaled to Germany now...I think that London should be OK, but they too have a large immigrant contingent that may be hiding some of these idiots.  A

Ron and Alexandra Seigel Yes they have foiled several attempts there plus the ones in I think it was 2006.

Usually, it is at this point before Thanksgiving that I make my annual trip to Napa-Sonoma to buy several bottles of wine for the big day.  However, this year, I have left the "task" to my two daughters.  I'm anxious to see what shows up.

Good Tuesday evening Yolanda. How does it finish? Many champagnes seem to start well but finish poorly. At least for my pallet.

I wish I thought of doing this even though I am not a big fan of French wines. It probably has something to do with not speaking French and their attitude towards those that don't. cheers cvc

Hi Yolanda.  I've never thought of any Champagne as an every day drink as I always considered Champagne being for those special occasions.

That vanilla, honey, almond combination sounds refreshingly good! Such a senseless tragedy in France.
