Living in Franklin North Carolina
Franklin, NC is a small little township in Macon County. It is located in the very Southwest corner of North Carolina within the Nantahala National Forest. Population in the town is 3,898 (2013) and in Macon County it is 33,857 (2013). We have over double the population since 1970. Our secret is out!
Living in Franklin, NC is a great place to live and raise a family. We have a abundance of second home residence who stay here in the Spring, Summer and Fall. We are best know as being the Gem Capitol of the World and still have active gem mines that thousands of visitor's come to see if they find the biggest gem each year.
The most amazing and great thing about Franklin, NC is our breath taking views of The Great Smoky Mountains and the Water Falls. Endless hiking trails, water rafting and kayaking and fly fishing are among the favorite outdoor activities of visitors and residence in Macon County.
Downtown Franklin has many gift shops, a museum, coffee shops, and a band stand where they hold Saturday night music during the summer months for free. The locals named it Pickin' on the Square. There a restaurant's, a farmers market and don't forget to visit our newest additions Lazy Hiker Brewing Company and The Bowery for lunch or dinner.
Another great thing for me about living in Franklin, NC is that I ride motor cycles. Its the best place in the world to ride your motorcycle and we have the Blue Ridge Parkway just a few miles away. Of course there are many other day trips all around Franklin too that are just as nice. If your a biker you will love living in Franklin, NC!
From great weekly music to some of the finest street festivals in the southeast, you'll discover great family entertainment and fun. Best of all, these events are free. Franklin, NC is in the center of it all in western North Carolina. We're just over two hours from Atlanta, Georgia, Greenville, SC and Knoxville, TN. Asheville, NC is an 1.25 hours to our east.
