We have so much to be thankful for this year and yet there are others who are not as blessed, even in a town like Chevy Chase. Chevy Chase is one of the most charming and affluent communities in Maryland, but there are still families who won't be celebrating Thanksgiving without some help from their neighbors. Town of Chevy Chase officials say they need about $1,425 more in donations to provide bountiful food baskets to all 80 Montgomery County Public Schools families being served this Thanksgiving.
It is very simple to participate since the town is looking for cash or gift cards. $25 purchases a turkey; $50 purchases groceries; $75 purchases an entire Thanksgiving basket. If you would like to be part of this neighbor-to-neighbor effort, drop off a check (made payable to YMCA-YFS) or Giant/Safeway gift cards to the Town Office or Georgia Guhin at 4006 Rosemary St. Georgia’s mail slot is available if she is not home.
If you want to be really involved, you can stop by the Town Hall on Saturday, Nov. 21, between 1 and 3 p.m. to help decorate the food boxes.
The Town’s contribution of 80 dinner baskets, now in its seventh year, is part of a larger county effort that helps MCPS families with groceries, not only for a Thanksgiving meal, but throughout the long holiday weekend.
